Unless someone specifies it as part of his theme, we will make it AD, Waivers.

[quote:4d95658372="wrz25"]All right, time to bring back the insidious, twisted Shifting Sands theme. I don't think we've seen one since ATG 4. In a nutshell, each of the 12 managers, when signing up, introduces one theme that every one in the league must adhere to. So, there will be TWELVE themes that your teams will be built under. League rules are as follows:

1. $120m cap, w/ DH.
2. Your theme can take no more than 30 words to describe.
3. A theme can not circumvent or cancel a previous listed theme.
4. Be sure there are enough players, etc. to meet your theme before posting it.

That's it. Anything else goes. Themes can involve mlb teams, lefty/righty, parks, player names, lineups, defense, etc, etc.

NOTE: I've done about a half dozen of these. They are real fun, but can be devilish when constructing teams, and head ache inducing, at times. Shifting Sands is not for the faint of heart, or those who like to put together a team and go on auto pilot. You have been warned.

Signup below, with your theme (30 words or less):
1. Modmark. Theme = Each team must have three position player (not DH) platoons active at all times; injuries don't let you off the hook, so plan accordingly. (24 words).
2. wrz25: Theme = Your SS, 2B, and CF must have a combined fielding rating of 7 or higher. (e.g. SS 2, 2B 2 and CF 3, or SS 1, 2B 3, CF 3, etc)
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

Ok, I am being pulled toward this light against all logic. Relatively sure it is simply a bug zapper, but I am still intrigued.

A question: What if an injury, for example, make compliance with one or more requirements impossible? I am guessing you must assure that this cannot become the case. So in planning accordingly, per Mark's post above, to keep compliance with wrz's theme, you would likely have to assure that if you had a 2 at SS, a 2 at 2B and a 3 in CF, you would also have to assure that all of your potential back-ups (and/or platoons) at these positions had the same defensive range. Or that if they didn't that your backups collectively still added up to 7. For example, if in the scenario above one starter was injured, if you didn't have the same number back-ups, you would potentially have to place back-ups at all three positions until that starter was back, to stay in compliance. Is that correct?

That was probably the least efficient way possible to ask that question....

Questions like this are necessary in a SS theme league. It is up to each owner, when asked a question pertaining to his theme, to give the answer. WRZ?

3. Roosky. Theme - you may only carry one pitcher that is 8 million or more at any given time.
4.honestiago--Balanced Batters--roster of 15; 5 must bat R, 5 left, and 5 are switch hitters (16 words)
5. he's meat - each team must have one, and only one JOHNSON at all times (read into this what you will)
6. gfdwarf07 - At least one member of the starting (hitters) lineup for every game must have come from the WAS-DB, WAS-pre, WAS-post or MN-exp rosters, even considering injuries (26 words)
7.
8.
9.
10.
11.
12.

Meaning there is a premium on switch-hitting senators/twins franchise players named Johnson.... Survey says: 0

I am a newby to this concept, so tell me if that cuts it.

How is compliance assessed? Honor system I presume...

Sounds fun... And I will go stock up on some Anicin now

Yes, you must be in compliance at all times. Usually at this cap it's not a problem as you will have mostly cheap backups with low ratings. Just make sure your backups are not rated higher than your starters. Of course, I'm sure Hal will make some unintentional mid game injury switches, however, all starting lineups for each game should comply.

Also, make sure you don't set defensive replacements for these positions.

Also it's 7 or higher so if you happen to go to 8 or 9 you're still in compliance.

A Diamond Dope draft would be fun as well - and in a way easier - you could assure you were in compliance with all 12 requirements pick by pick. Envisioning about a 3 hour clock and the whole draft taking a week or so, if all are conscientious.

The AD will I am sure create lots of headaches all at once as you try to bring the full roster into compliance. Maybe that's the whole purpose? :)

Just an idea.
Thanks,
Dan

Wow I can see now that this will be a brain racking equation to put together. I think it will be a fun challenge!

Understood - thanks - the "or higher" part does make it simpler.

Agreed. The scary part is we are only half way there. Still waiting on 6 rules.

ideally, the next six rules should be increasingly less limiting considering the rubik's cube already created.
I agree at least a partial live draft would be ideal, how bout 12 rounds, so each of us gets at least one chance to focus on what he feels is the most difficult, or most essential shifting sand to deal with...
