Mathews '53

Postby DonFESQ » Mon Apr 02, 2012 11:44 am

the problem with Mathews and Arky is that they are fantasim joke cards not based on their actual performance. Glad I never participated in the fantasim game.

I have no problem with relievers and such because those are their actual cards, use them how you see fit. But seriously, when you toss in an Arky who was .385 with 19HR and the card is better than the Babe's there's something wrong.

I have used Arky exactly one time and took him #1 in a live draft. He's pretty ridiculous.

The 'super reliever' is imo a completely different animal than the Fantasim issue.
The issue with the FantaSim cards is that are inconsistent with the rest of the set- meaning the cards are very different than players who have had similar seasons, or even the same player who had a similar season-

this is not the case with the rp issue- where the cards much more closely resemble similar seasons of other players.

I didn't [b:153fe75cde]fail[/b:153fe75cde] to mention anything. The fantasim cards are simply not based on player stats in this universe and not realistic. The relief pitchers are realistic. No comparison, sort of like apples and Andromedan spaceships.

Lajoie is a real card not a fantasim card. And he should be here. He was the Honus Wagner of 2b men and arguably the best second baseman who ever played the game.

No argument from me re: the Arky and Eddie cards. They [i:2da60b29eb]are[/i:2da60b29eb] insane, and I won't have any problem when they are replaced with more realistic cards that represent their actual abilities. But, until that happens, I will continue to try and use them. If my opponents have access to [i:2da60b29eb]super secret weapons[/i:2da60b29eb], I will also seek them out. :P

Modmark--are they indeed going to replace the Fantasim cards? I've taken a hiatus until they do so. It's just not SOM. Why not offer a card creator and name it. Same thing--it is fantasy performance stats in a sim.

That's not why most people play SOM vs other games.

Wrong direction.

And it's not even a remote analogy regarding relief pitcher usage vs fantasim cards. The issue is the CARD, not the ending stats, not the playing style--these are all influenced by external rules and styles. The issue is the CARD.

Nowhere on the card does it make someone use a relief pitcher for 300 innings. But there's nothing you can do to the Fantasim cards to make them represent the true stats, neither in an absolute or relative sense of performance.

Bonds has a monster card because it represented a somewhat anomalous (but real) performance that year.

Geez I haven't played in about a month--what's with these inane card additions? No not insane, indeed inane.

No need to slander Fantasim for these cards. That game is not designed to be the same as this game. It would be nice if Bernie and the TSN/SOM crew put a fraction of the effort and time they put here into that game, they might even make a game that you all would "consider". Unfortunately, they they took a great concept and dropped the ball by making it a light version and then completely abandoning it so they could make changes here every two months. And you all still complain...

PJ, I agree that Fantasim and SOM are separate. I wish, apparently like you, Bernie would keep it separate.

Not sure what the complaining is--who asked for Fantasim cards and is now complaining about it?

Are you not complaining about fantasim cards?

Those of us playing that game have a laundry list of suggested improvements that has gone unanswered for years. The result is that the pool of people still playing has been whittled down to about 15. The game will probably be eliminated soon, I can't imagine any other outcome, but it c[i:a00d7de218]ould[/i:a00d7de218] be a great game for those able to wrap their minds around the mystery card idea.

I'm thinking SOM (TSN SOM is part of SOM not the other way around) is still doing well, and less posting on the message boards doesnt mean the online game isn't doing well either, maybe it just means many people are tired of the bickering on the boards. You could give the best the world has to offer some people and they would still find a reason to grumble and complain.
