ATG III-Pre-card leagues - (2 full, third is filling)

Postby Palanion » Thu Jul 20, 2006 2:35 pm

I recall him writing, after seven teams, that that was less than half. So I figured it had to be about 16-17 teams.
Since, of course, 7 is less than one-third of 23...... I never would have read into it that far....
Thanks for making me aware Dave!

[quote:11905e823e="treyomo"]Perhaps make it a 2 stage draft - the first 11 rounds must be picks from the new team (an odd number of rounds so the person with first crack at new players gets last crack at the known ones), the final 14 can be from any team.[/quote:11905e823e]
I definitely like the idea of separating the draft into two parts... one where everyone is solely focused on drafting the new-to-ATG3 guys and then one where everyone is filling in the rest of their team from ATG-2 guys.

I like Millercorps's option with alternate for #4... namely draft two teams... one new-ATG3, one old-ATG2... then have a open-field player draft from everything else that remains... you'd also have to play in one of the stadiums for the new-ATG3 team... that way we at least get to see/sample the new ballparks in use.

There are themes running that use this idea. They are a blast, roosky started one, drafting from the current teams and new teams as they come, and the draft is fantastic (one draft for current teams and one draft for the new teams).

When this started, the idea was to fill the league just with new players so we could see as many of them as possible in action. I think we should stick with that for league #1. With 20+ new teams, that should give us more than enough players to field 12 rosters.

I can't speak for the other leagues, but would be open for anything in league #2 (which I'm in as well! )

I agree with wanting to see as many new players in the league as possible... I hadn't fully considered that with 20 teams, even with some players removed, there still should be enough at every position to fill 12 teams. Seems liekly though.

That said, any reason why league 2 can't run that way as well? Other input/thoughts from league 2 owners?

League #2 ideas - I agree that I want as many new guys as possible. But with the option of old guys, too, since they can provide a little comparison.

Maybe we can have a 2-part draft.
1 - draft a whole new ATG III team (aka '11 A's)
2 - then maybe 10 rounds (more or less) to draft players from the new teams not yet taken (or announced?!)
3 - then owners can fill (if needed) their rosters with anyone (entire FA pool) they want to get to 25.

We could draft the team portion before the game launches... once more than 12 teams have been teased....

PJ , league #1 : If there's going to be 23 teams then why not go 11 teams get 2 new teams , the shorted manager gets his choice of old teams to match up with . I think for the 1st league we should go 100M . We really have no idea how much the new players are going to cost . I'd like to see at least 10 players (20) from each new team mandatory, filling it out with the old . Waivers . We have no idea either on what the ball park ratings are going to be yet either . Just a thought . Kind of like Honey I'm Home but not .

With 23 new teams being added, I would prefer using the new players only. We each draft a team use that teams park. With the other undrafted players from the new teams we do a live draft. Just my 2 cents.

[b:487d60fcea]I'm part of league 2 with Palanion and like his idea above in the most part. We draft a whole new team and have a supplemental draft ( 8 to 10 rounds) from the remaining new teams. It's "simple" which is the right way to go for a new set of teams and players.

I like this too, as long as there's a $/# limit to guys from the old pool. I don't want to have a 40M ATGIII roster, than fill it up with Mays/Gehrig/etc.
