Agree with Vinnie.

Not thrilled with the idea of Ruth pitching to Ruth.

the Tanana card reminds me of Dazzy Vance with one good/bad #thrown in.

Bernie, we got any middle infielders or Cs coming?
Havent seen any yet, but I tend to forget things, like switching to the better Honus Wagner before the deadline.

Bernie:

We currently have someone like Joe Wood that is available as a hitter and pitcher. If you own one card, you own both and could switch if you wanted.

Is it that big of a deal that we need to now change how it is handled?

It looks like there is only 13 or 14 series that Ruth wouldn't pitch in that he would be available as a hitter. It would have to be close when weighing the offense and pitching for a person to consider using a player both ways. Even in a $200M league, I can't see someone making the swap from the pitcher to the hitter. If someone wants to play the game of swapping the player, I say let them and see how long they could do it before running out of money.

In a live draft with no salary cap, it could be done. If someone really wants to do it, why not let them. It would reflect players who pitched and then fielded a position on their "off" days from pitching.

[quote:dfce6a718d="bernieh"]Even though for regular-cap leagues the drop penalty does discourage this exploit, there would be cases where it could still be an unnatural advantage, and we need to address that.[/quote:dfce6a718d]

Doesn't the fact that Ruth could be pitching to Ruth make it an unnatural advantage? More so than Ruth pitching every 4 days and hitting only for 13 or 14 series in a year.

[quote:75da5e298c="Petrosian"]Good batch of players but was really hoping for the 1894 Sam Thompson...

Be nice if we knew what Hugh Duffy's 3/7 roll is vs. righties.[/quote:75da5e298c]

It looks like he will be included.

I think Bernie may end up overwhelming everyone with what he delivers on Thursday.

Those concerned with OPS+ and ERA+ should be aware that the strat-o-matic model is differential, rather than proportional. Player cards are created based on the differences between their stats and the league stats, rather than the ratio of their stats to the league stats.

So Duffy's OPS of 1.196 in a league with an average SLG of .435 and an average OBP of .379 is .382 better than average. If you give him an OBP 123 points above the 2010 NL, and a SLG 259 points above the 2010 NL, he would have an OPS+ of 203 rather than 172. This would be tied for 43rd with Gehrig 30, Brett 80, Lajoie 04, Sosa 01, and a guy named Dave Orr from 1885. Not too shabby for a guy who played in an era where HR's were rare.

I am happy. He will be drafted on my first team which will make him my card. So by the rule of Nev and Salt none of you can copy my draft card and put Lou on your draft card.
