Best All Time Player

Parrish is a good value, but the low BA and OBP can sometimes kill you.

I know he's been mentioned, but I have to second the nomination for Kid SPEER ... $ for $, he's gotta be the best pitching value in the game.

For under $2 mill, in a hitters park, Ted Simmons will give you consistently big power numbers....

MtheB, do you think Parrish is ok for small ball parks for his defensive value and ability to hit HR's in the bottom part of the lineup and for protection in Bomber parks? I've often thought of him but usually go the other way with Carter or else Dempsey. Parrish seems to be a stratomatic merger of the 2. Carter usually gets me 80-100 RBI's on my 650 run teams and Dempsey 50-60.

I just wanted to throw Harry Steinfeldt and Ellis Valentine into the mix for the "best value" category.

I've started keeping track of the players I use the most and here are the averages for Harry and Ellis.

Steinfeldt
9 seasons
603 AB
88 R
87 RBI
.333/.451/.391

Valentine
12 seasons
613 AB
104 R
107 RBI
.297/.513/.353

Parrish is obviously much more valuable in a high HR BP Park.
However, at 1.97 mill, even if you need him for his non-injury D, thats a pretty good deal.
have had him hit 25+ HRs 90+ RBIs in pitchers parks.
thats one of the better #7 or #8 hitters in my book.

I think it's funny how threads like this--asking for the BEST player always evolve into people telling good values. I think we all are bursting to tell our secrets, like high school girls after the prom.

Glad to see someone mention Canseco. I have always thought he was a good value at just over 5 mil. Except for one season when he got a lot of injuries, he usually gives me an average of over .260 and 40-50 Hr.
