ATG6 1946-2009 league, $100 mil DH, 24 teams, 5/10/20, FULL!

The league is 1946-2009

Postby BDWard » Wed Oct 19, 2011 9:42 pm

Bill: Thanks for your question. The league is 1946-2009 (with 2009 being the most recent seasons in ATG6). We will be drafting from the entire ATG6 set, but only cards for the seasons 1946-2009 are eligible to be drafted. If you get assigned NeL cards or seasons prior to 1946 in the autodraft, they must be dropped in the preseason and any new acquisitions must be for the years 1946-2009.

I hope this clarifies things. - Bernie W

What's the significance of 1946?

Postby Dr.Publix » Thu Oct 20, 2011 7:55 am

I realize that there are some interesting cards from 46 but it seems like it'd be easier/more practical to just use the post WWII set. I guess what I'm asking is if you're going back earlier than 47, why did you pick 46? I don't have a problem or anything, I'm just curious. Thanks and looking forward to the season

Thanks for your question. While I certainly agree that that it would be "easier/more practical to just use the Post WWII set" as defined by TSN/Strato, I've always thought that the Post WWII set of cards should have started with the 1946 season instead of 1947, as WWII ended with the surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945. Plus, given that this league uses roughly half of the entire ATG6 set, not only is 1946 historically correct, but it gives us a few extra cards from which to choose.

I started a similar 12 team league last year and all of the teams did a pretty good job of avoiding use of ineligible players and I expect no problems this league.

I'm looking forward to a fun league with some great competition. - Bernie W

Diamond Dope draft?

Postby BDWard » Thu Oct 20, 2011 12:31 pm

I've been asked by one of the league members to consider a live Diamond Dope draft. According to Adrian (agabriel), the founder of Diamond Dope, the newest ATG6 cards should be available for a Diamond Dope draft some time over the weekend. If not, we could always create a draft thread on the message boards.

I've participated in Diamond Dope drafts in the past and they are simple and a lot of fun. They prevent managers from getting screwed by the autodraft, which is more likely to happen in our league given the reduced size of the player pool and the increased number of teams. On the downside, they take forever to complete and require a bigger time commitment by the participants than simply filling out an autodraft card.

While I've never been a fan of making up or changing the rules as we go along and favor the use of the autodraft for this league, I think a live Diamond Dope draft is worthy of discussion and I have no problem using such for this league if the managers are strongly in favor of it and no one drops out because of it.

If we were to use a Diamond Dope draft, I propose that it be a 16 round serpentine draft and that the draft be used for 15 players and one unique stadium that can be drafted at any time by the manager. Once a stadium is picked, it could not be picked again. The last 10 players would be selected through the autodraft. There would be a two hour time limit for picks and proxy picks would be available.

Please let me know your thoughts on whether we should choose our teams through the autodraft or Diamond Dope. Thanks for your help. - Bernie W
