Why do you Play???......

Postby DAVIDHALL » Wed Jan 04, 2006 8:33 pm

I first played the game in high school, and the obsession grew through my college years, where I spent countless hours playing this game which could perhaps have been better spent studying calculus, physics, electromagnetic theory, et al, and chasing women!

As time passed and adulthood (to some degree) set in, our leagues evolved into play-by-mail, then eventually faded into nothingness. Finding this site and all the great people on it, meeting some of them at the fantastic outing Bobby hosted in Vegas last spring, plus all the reasons Marge so eloquently stated, renewed the addiction.

Good question. I ask myself that everyday.

Frankly, I'm not sure ............. :? I've tried to quit, but it is like a drug, it's addictive.

Here are some of my reasons:

I like the thrill of checking your teams in the morning.

I like building the teams, adds, drops, waivers, frenzy, mini-frenzy, everything about it.

I like chatting on the boards and within the league. Lots of great people playing this game. The comraderie.

I love the game of baseball.

I've played strat off and on since I was probably 12 years old. So, this is a natural progression.

The challenge of winning. It's getting harder IMHO to win because the level of competition keeps getting stronger.

I love seeing, drafting, checking the stats on the players. How else can you keep in touch with your boyhood heros? I love seeing the players on strat and then thinking back ... oh yeah, I remember his 1970 Topps card!!!

I love trying oddball team ideas, counter-intuitive approaches to winning (and unfortunately losing).

And finally, I love trying to break the records on Moose's site ........

Now, can someone start a post about why we should quit playing???
