His 78 card is a reliever card, and since I cant get Eck as a starter, I took the Lee who can start

no, its a S7 starter only $2.26M, not horrible, but the '73 is better. Since you didn't get Eck I don't mind, I was just letting you know.

just did the #'s and I'm not sure you can get under 60M with the '73 Lee anyway.
maybe if you use G. Scott's '72 card (and play one of your OF studs at 1b since this is a noDH league anyway) then you'd free up some $$$ for Lee's higher priced year.

My thoughts on using other card years:
We are not gonna create a monster squad at 60m regardless of which cards we use
It should also be FUN, and we should be able to field a competitive team
Not using DH hurts some AL squads, as well as all teams having trouble accessing certain key players for other reasons (I cant get an Eck as my staff ace because he is only an A's reliever in ATG)

Can we use some of our teams franchise teams .50 fillers even though they weren't on the specific year we picked. This will help maintaining our salary caps.

I think we have to use fillers if we can't get 25 guys for the draft card.
I will use one to fill the Pirates, and AndyCummings is using 1 (Sullivan '86 Catcher) since none of Boston's catchers other than Fisk from '78 are carded in ATG6.
I think in the case where a premier guy is missing (ex. Eckersley) a better card is o.k. Another option would be to use the correct year card and find a replacement for the premier/missing guy. In Eck's case maybe Fergie Jenkins who was their ace the year before........but yes, we are all stuck to 60M anyway.
