ATG2 Wrap Up -- your personal MVP...?

Postby JohnnyBlazers » Mon Jul 31, 2006 12:32 pm

In my limited experience (mostly Y56 teams) I'll go with Snider. The Duke of Flatbush is always in the hunt for MVP. Eddie Mathews performs consistently above average. For the value, I'll go with King Kong Keller. That price is too much to pass up when you compare him to other OBP leaders

My choices...

[b:8e2c6a9329]MVP Lou Gehrig[/b:8e2c6a9329]
Ok, so he is expensive, he is a run scoring, home run hitting, RBI producing Machine!

[b:8e2c6a9329]Runner up MVP Robin Yount[/b:8e2c6a9329]
Simply the best SS in atg2!

[b:8e2c6a9329]Honorable Mentions[/b:8e2c6a9329]
[b:8e2c6a9329]Felipe Alou[/b:8e2c6a9329] Never disappoints, Great production consistently at a good price
[b:8e2c6a9329]Gorman Thomas[/b:8e2c6a9329] Simply a MONSTER in a hitters park!
[b:8e2c6a9329]Joe Morgan[/b:8e2c6a9329] Don't ask me why, but when I play in Fenway '67and don't have Joe, [b:8e2c6a9329]I don't win![/b:8e2c6a9329] :(

My Cy Young is Camnitz. Much easier to get in the autodraft than Pete/3-Finger and in the 3rd/4th round of live drafts, he rarely disappointed, going for 17-20 wins and an ERA around 3 regardless of the situation.

I didn't have any go-to guys that I used all the time (other than nickel subs like Reynolds, Quirk, and Bernazard). I found the most valuable hitters to be the cheaper on-base gems who let me save money for big gun RBI guys.

In pitchers parks, my MVP would be Curt Flood. I don't know why I didn't use him more, but every time I did he hit .290-.320 batting low vs. RHP and #2 vs. LHP, injury proof, and providing great CF defense. In hitters parks, I'd go with Charlie Keller. A reliable on base performer who provides pop and clutch hitting, I could save money for the big gun RBI guys.

When I read this thread I was thinking MVP, well that should be who participated on the most Title teams for me. So I went through my teams and found that Tris Speaker has been my MVP participating on nearly 80% of my championship teams. On the pitching side Barney Schultz has been on about 65% of those teams. Honorable mention has to go to Frank Chance who was on my first 7 Championship teams, but then his popularity increased and I was unable to get him very often. :D

Well, with 1 champ. team, I don't have too much work to do in figuring out who was on it. Looking at the (slightly) larger group of teams I had success with, almost all were in Dunn and the three most crucial guys to get, in order, were:

1. Banks
2. Speaker
3. Kaat

Ripper Collins, Stan Musial and (when Musial wasn't available, which is usually), Yaz were all consistently excellent, even at their prices.
