[quote:d4d0261c8c]It's just I always thought Pujols was a little different. Of all players in all sports he was the one that I never thought would leave his team.

Interesting perspective. We often think that about various players. I have to join you in thinking such things and being wrong. But what are we basing our thoughts on? The fact I thought that and was wrong does not make Pujols a bad or greedy guy, just means my evaluation thought process was off. Cardinals have consistently underpaid him relative to his performance as compared to the top tier of baseball. And realistically most of us knew they were unwilling to do so or they would have got him locked up last winter. Therefore was our expectations that he would play entire career in St. Louis realistic or misguided.
In hindsight as someone pointed out up to this point in his career he has been underpaid relative to what other players have made with comparable performance on field. Should we then have been surprised that once he had total freedom to go anywhere he would seek and get a contract that was in line with numbers he was putting up? Shouldn't we have all seen this coming?
But honestly relative to others with his potential how does this deal compare?
Is there anyone in baseball who will make less than Angels gave Pujols and is not limited by the FA rules who we seriously expect to have a better year? Anyone going to be surprised if he is the starting first baseman for the AL in 2012. Who puts up better numbers this year, Arod or Pujols. Teixeira or Pujols, Gonzalez or Pujols? Should he not then make more than Tex, Arod, or Gonzalez if he is better?
