Have to express some gratitude to Dean for posting that chart. First time I have ever seen it layed out which seasons have which features. I could not even get that information from Strato sales and support.

[quote:860b610c6e="Palanion"]Trim,
As an avid SOMer for decades, though not as long as you, I can tell you that SOM has made a split side (adv or sadv) of every player card for every season for the computer. And every year they release at least one past season as an upgraded Caddy, which includes c&d (cards and dice).
In fact, the lead researcher for Caddy seasons has announced work on 1958, 1973, and 1938, with 1958 probably being released this winter and 1973 some time later in 2012.[/quote:860b610c6e]

A friend and I use to sit down and play from morning to night. Now I can't sit down and play a 4 game series. I quit playing the board game several years ago and once I quit playing I quit buying seasons. I however might start buying the computer game, depending on how hard it is too reactivate seasons if I buy a new computer.

With the cd rom game I sometimes play as many as 40 games in a day, i create a series of leagues from the 55 different seasons i have so far. My goal is to create 25 seasons and play them out...they are 12 team leagues comprised of 3 in one teams for each of the 30 teams played 12 at a time. Its been great fun so far. I don't keep 3 complete teams within the single team but sort each team out leaving 20 players per team (12 hitters,8 pitchers)

[b:24b26d0469]I have noticed that the Hugh Duffy 1894 card here on TSN SOM is 2e11 while his D rating on the computer game is 2e25, is that because TSN isn't using the same max rules as the computer game? There is an option on the max rules on the computer game to use "pre -1920 errors". Duffy is a minus 2 throwing arm in both versions so the only change is in the E rating between the e11 and e25.[/b:24b26d0469] He is also a 4e88 fielding at SS as opposed to the 4e40 here on TSN SOM.

There is an adjustment to pre-1920 to normalize them, error wise. The gloves and the fielding were really bad, such that Mark Reynolds would have had a league average glove. So, here, there error normalization is written on the card. On the computer game, the correction is made via the option (as I understand it from a discussion about Honus Wagner).

I just recently bought the SOM football CD rom game. I still have all my SOM cards and I will always have them unless they get destroyed in a natural disaster. My fear with the cd rom game is their authorization process. I authorized the 2 seasons I recently bought and I get the message I have 0 authorizations left.

I am trying to get SOM to guarantee that if I reformat my hard drive or buy a new computer, or hell even if I buy another computer after that computer that I can transfer those seasons to the new computer or a new hard drive. I am not going to eventually invest thousands of dollars into something and then it all be worthless just because I format my hard drive, or buy 2 new computers.

Anyone have any experience with this situation?

The E ratings on a lot of these players is a little off in comparison to their actual cards, the cards I can hold in my hand.

This is off topic but i was reading about the 19th century rule changes in baseball..until 1893 one side of the bat could be flat..and until 1895 Bid Mcphee still played 2nd base barehanded. In 1871 batters could call for their own pitches (wanting a high or low pitch for example)

SOM has adjusted the error ratings for a number of early ballplayers to account for the improvements in fielding equipment and field grooming. Those of us of a certain age will never forget Tony Kubek lying sprawled on the ground at SS in the 7th game of the 1960 World Series - without that well-placed pebble, Mazeroski's HR would have just been a consolation prize for the Pirates.

Trim,

Check out that forum I linked earlier. But, otherwise, just keep your autho cards that came with the CD. Or, as many do, create a spreadsheet to keep tracks of the codes and the seasons to which they belong.
If you ever need to reauthorize on a new computer, I believe the action is to notify SOM and then install on the new computer with the existing auto code.
I have not had to do that yet, but there will come a day.
