The OF seems to be the area of weakness to me at this time

the 3rd 4th and 5th starters are going to get killed.... and your bullpen will lose all the games that those starters above don't..... Hernandez won't be able to handle all the relief work himself..... 62 errors at SS will finish off any chance you might have had.... or the defense at 2B .... combined with virtually no hitting to speak of...I would say youwill be lucky to win 50 games......

I would offer some advice .....but I don't know where to start... this is an awfully negative post .... I jsut can't find any good things to say about the team....sorry... maybe someone can offer some help...I'm sure someone will.

Not to mention 2b and ss. & your 3rd & 4th SPs. & the back end of your bullpen. But, you asked in time to do something about it, which is good.
FA possibilities:
2b: the usual leftover suspects. Get a "1."
ss: Wagner (!) Yount (!!)
cf: Dawson
McCoskey, Stephenson & Ennis are other OF possibles I saw quickly.
Gehrig is a candidate for devaluation. You would be much better off with 1 of those 2 shortstops & a more balanced offensive team.
You also need 2 * SPs for 3 & 4. Lonborg & Carlton are options.
Patterson, Worthington & Hughes are bullpen addition options if you have the $$. I'd look for 2 SP onlies (Medich is one) to displace Orwoll & Watt.

Before making any moves, you need to ask yourself what this team is designed to do. Score runs? Prevent runs? Small ball...bomber? Right now the sum of your parts is far less than the indiviual player values becuase they don't work together. You also are using a lot of players that I never see used outside of specialty leagues...Backman, Parent, Rice, Hall. I would dump Gehrig for some help up the middle. He won't help you right now, because there is no one for him to drive in. I HAVE made the one great reliever srategy work, but you need to get your settings JUST right, to prevent the others from ever getting into a close game. And you need better 3-4 starters to do that. The starters mentioned above would be good...Lonborg, Carlton, or someone like them. I have found Koufax inconsistant for the $$. You may want to spend elsewhere, but your park is a good one for him, so it's a tough call. It isn't hopeless but you need to make a plan and execute by opening day.

Interesting team. Are you going to have Alou lead off against right-handers?

I've considered doing that.

I've only seen the modified team so can only speak regarding that.

Koufax, Carlton, Perry, Pierce, Hunter are worth keeping. I'd drop Koosman altogether to shore up your relief and to buy a functioning outfield. I'd probably get rid of Caldwell and try to get Ruether, Vukovich, Frock, Speer, Vance or Faber for hr parks on the road. Hunter's value to your team is primarily a function of the other parks in the league. If there are a fair number of pitchers parks his value rises significantly

I have only horror stories to tell regarding Fingers. Lyle, Humphries, Staley and B. 2.03 Miller are all much better. Usually at least one of them is available. I'd try to get two relievers totaling 6-7 with your team.

Gehrig will almost certainly disappoint. He's usually lucky to hit .300 although he often slugs well over .700. But he is too pricey. There are plenty of decent first baseman, run some available names by me and I can advise further.

I'd ditch your entire OF. Seriously. It sucks.

I probably never spend less than $15 for my OF and often upwards of $30 Million. I suggest you adhere to at least the lower limit. Again run some more names by.

I would also have reservations about starting White every day at 2nd. But he has to be the only easy out in the lineup for that strategy to be viable. I once won a ring with a Chuck Hiller and White platoon, though I haven't had the balls to try that one again.

the team is "somewhat" improved.... agree on ditching Fingers, just NOT a good choice. HAL loves Borbon and will give him so much work it will make you cringe....because he is poor. I would change Gehrig White and Wills....and you don't have a keeper YET in the outfield.... I will up my thoughts on win total to 65 "maybe" ...but thats being optomistic I think.
