Nev, what kills me most about this post is that I know there are two leagues that you are in that you don't have Meusel on your team because you tried to trade me for him and I didn't trade him to you.

Nev, I think you are getting a little obsessed with Meusel. :shock:

BTW, on the two teams where I stole him away from you, he is healthy, happy, and living large with an average OPS over .900! So it must just be you. :)

Hasn't this been rehashed before? Wasn't there the identical team league formed for this reason? When this issue was addressed, several times last year and usually initiated by Nev, I hadn't been around long enough to weigh in on it in any definitive sense. And it seems that the die hard randomness advocates carried the day.

But now I have the experience. And I have always carefully attended to this phenomenon with my own teams.

Here's the deal as I see it. There is an injury issue with the programming. Two separate issues actually. Countless times I have had the same guy get injured at the same time on multiple teams. Currently it's Cochrane. Also once a player gets seriously injured on a given team, he is much more likely to go down, again and again.

Nothing will ever convince me this is not the case.

I'd like to hear from Frank and Bobby, and Error Magnate on this issue as we have played the most teams.

Now let's say you have 30 active teams. And let's say you like Meusel and he's on half your teams. If he gets injured one night he will guaranteed get injured on multiple teams. Generally this seems to occur on 1/3 to 1/2 the active teams on which he is rostered. So he won't get injured across the board, thus the two team identical league was not well devised to address this question.

However, if we had 15 identical team leagues running at once, the phenomenon would be clearly revealed. Hell you could probably do it with 15 identical catcher lineups with the other players varying per league.

I have a team going right now that was in a dog fight for the playoffs. Both Gantner and J. Collins went down for 15 around game 140. That left me with Mazeroski as my only player for 2nd and 3rd. Hal used Bill Abstein at 3rd. Then he got hurt for 7 and Hal used Fred Clarke.
I made the playoffs and by game 3, both Gantner and Collins were gone for 15 again. I survived the playoffs with a game 5 win and now go into the finals led by 3rd baseman Bill Abstein. :D

I seem to recall that 2 identical leagues were run last year where all teams and lineups had to remain the same in an attempt to find an injury correlation. I believe the results were conclusive that there was nothing outside of random chance. That's got to be on the old boards but I can't find my old link to it.

Or maybe it's a sign from the Strat gods to stop using Meusel so much!!

nah....no WAY ... the only ones they convinced were themselves ...PERIOD. Some guys you can't convince a 2 by 4 is hard even if you hit them over the head with it. Some of these guys will argue that green is blue if you give em the chance.

EXACTLY what nev and I have both said time and again. A few believe, others like you decide that yes this is so...and the nay sayers will still spout randomness as the ONLY answer. No one will convince me otherwise either. I will reiterate what I said before too.... IF you rest that player for the next series...his chances of being reinjured fall off dramatically.

BUT..... it IS pointless to bring it up again. The believers will still believe and the others will still say nope its random.
