Theme league set ups . . .

Theme league set ups . . .

I think this is an idea for ATG IV or beyond. However, I am curious as to what others think of it.

With the addition of all these players the idea of theme leagues becomes more interesting to me. As I was thinking of that I found myself thinking how much fun it would be if the league set up rules could be a little more flexible. Even a handfull of predesigned "templates" would be great.

For example, what if the number of teams and divisions was optional provided the proportion of free credits to total teams playing remained the same (to preserve the economic model)? Further what if the allocation of free credits was also optional? In this "template" the number of playoff teams would remain 4 so that the playoff scheduling can still happen on the same days (to preserve Bernie and others work schedules).

Here's an example of a potential league template:

4 divisions: 2 NL only--no DH, 2 AL only--DH optional
Regular season interleague AL v NL play optional
5 teams per division=20 teams total=5 available free credits
Division winners make playoffs and win a free credit.
World Series winner wins a free credit.

(note: although the same number of credits per teams participating are maintained for economic reasons; the guaranteed different number of teams earning free credits is increased--1/5 instead of the current 1/6).

What do you folks think of this idea? Would you play it? Also, I would be interested to know if there are other ideas for templates. I can think of several others . . . Perhaps if there is a lot of diversity on this issue, "theme league set ups" can become an option in the future.
