Introducing the Proper Nouns

Introducing the Proper Nouns

Postby FAaron » Wed Sep 28, 2005 9:53 am

Inspired by Muttdoc, I put together a team where each player's last name is an actual word which appears in the dictionary (please note that sometimes I used the phonetic and not actual spelling, such as "Byrne").

Here are the team intros (and definitions) for the Proper Nouns!

C: Johnny BENCH - a nice place to sit in the dugout, especially if you are backing up Bench.

C: Steve LAKE - a large body of water.

DH: Don MONEY - Cash

1B: Norm CASH - Money

1B: Jim MARSHALL - a law enforcement officer who usually collects Cash and Money

SS: Ernie BANKS - places to keep Cash and Money

2B: Lonny FREY - to cook in a pan

INF: Chico SALMON - a large fish which is often Frey'd

3B: Larry GARDNER - a person who grows flowers and plants

LF: Pete ROSE - a type of flower

CF: Curt FLOOD - a deluge of water

RF: Babe RUTH - to rue or regret, as in "I would really ruth it if the word Ruth wasn't a defined word in my dictionary, since I couldn't have added the Babe to my team"

OF: Bobby BROWN - the color of mud and chocolate

OF: Pete FOX - a small furry mammal of the canine family

SP: Dickie KERR - a mangy mongrel of the canine family

SP: Lefty GROVE - a place to grow fruit trees

SP: Vida BLUE - the color of the sky and the sea

SP: Mudcat GRANT - to allow something to happen, as in "Mudcat granted a great deal of homers on his SOM card!"

SP: Mike MOORE - comparative term meaning greater than another item, as in, "Mike is so bad, I hope we don't have to use him Moore than we have to"

RP: Tommy BYRNE - to set on fire

RP: Lee TUNNELL - an underground passageway, as in "After blowing his last save Lee wished he could find a Tunnell to escape the irate fans at the ballpark"

RP: Joe BEGGS - to plead with, as in "Joe BEGGS for a chance to close a game"

RP: Bob KLINGER - one who sticks to another

I think you can bank on being flooded with a ton of runs as your pitching staff is byrned and beggs for mercy, but your lineup is money that will need to score moore than you think, unless you can outfox the marshall across the bench.
