This is my first ATG team ever. I wanted to try an all power team in a small park. I know I need help with my pitching.

Other parks in my div are
Griffith Stadium '24
Forbes Field '09
Busch Stadium '64

Two zero HR stadiums and one other HR park in division.

I know, I know a 3 in CF and a 4 in LF. Does every position have to be a 1? I would like to try Hack for sure in CF. I am open to change in LF if it is adviseable.

Any suggestions for a newbie?

Well, here is my take, for what it is worth....

I think, for a bomber team, it is important to have good fielding, since your pitching is typically so lousy, you need some good fielding to back it up. I would rather go with a 4 in lf, than a 3 in CF. I have used Hack before, but only in pitchers parks with solid staffs, so his fielding does not hurt me....but, if your heart is set on it, go for it!! He is a great hitter no doubt!

I also think, on bomber teams, tough to have a weak link like bishop. I would look for someone with some pop (Gordon is nice here). Another suggestion is maybe move ruth to lf, and replace Luzinski....he is OK, but there are alot of very good rf's left in your fa, keller, J.Jackson, McCosky if you want a leadoff guy, or Valentine, Ennis, Canseco for power. All better choices than Luzinski IMHO. Or, leave Ruth in rf, and get C.Jones...lots of great moves available.

Also think there are alot better choices than McGwire. You pay alot for that 1 fielding rating, at a positon where it is not crucial. Cepeda, Murray or Powell would all be much better choices here.

my .02 :)

I love bomber teams as well LM. I also agree with mtarbell about having a solid defense to go with your power. Horntsnest and I are usually in the top 4 with HR hit during a season. Whereas he might concentrate on pitching a little more, I focus on defense. Both work well. I'm usually in Polo or Baker. Heres some of my better bomber teams!

This team was second best in errors but about 5th in HR's hit

I'm in your division, so I won't suggest players to use and then tell you to ignore my suggestions because I'm in your division. But you might want to go to the records books section and check some of the teams that hold records in home runs and slugging and see what they did (also check their record and see if they won enough with that style to make you happy). Another resource to use is Adrian's diamonddope.com. It's a great way to compare players' potential for your park.

Good luck, have fun and welcome to the asylum.

I agree with Simon although I think he goes for the pitching more than I do : ) ..I spend more on my relief, but absolutely agree with him on defense...you have to have 1's at 2B (unless its Hornsby) CF should be a 1 and a very strong armed catcher (I tend to always go cheap on my catchers( Fosse, Roseboro, Lake, Kennedy, Garagiola, Howard, Parrish)...I cheat a lot at the other positions on defense 1B,3B,LF,RF....now as for your team I can tell you without a doubt your pitching is gonna get killed in Huntington and ther bomber parks...you need pitchers WITHOUT BP HRs on them..your staff would be great for Yankee'56 but not for your park, the park won't protect you against righty HR hitters...and the most important part of a bomber team other than the bombers is your relief staff..you need AT LEAST 4 SOLID relievers 2 STUDS (righty/lefty) and 2 semi studs/good relievers...McGwire is gonna die on the road in your division, Bishop should only be used as a LAST resort, never used either Hack or Luzinski nut I don;t like their cards or Hack's defense...I'll be brutally honest here, the only players I would keep from your team are Ruth, Banks, Bando, Dayley, Drieswerd, maybe Konstanty(although I think he's overpriced and he has 3 chances for HRs on each side)..you don't need a backup at SS or 3B with Banks and Bando so Alley is a waste. Try to balance your lineup out with another lefty bomber or 2,,,,below are a few examples of 80M teams...hope iy helps...

agree with most other posts here....Bishop is the kiss of death.... Luzinski, Hack NO GOOD..... Hack hits but he can't make up for that 3 range with his hitting over many other hitters. If you are going nasty defense in left ....use Covington he will hit a BATCH of HR's ..... didn't look at your FA....but MAKE changes if you want to win.

Wow Guido! I didn't realize how much you and I thought alike about structuring teams until I read your post! No wonder you and I end up butting heads so often!

No doubt about it, you need ATLEAST 1 more lefty bat. As the team stands now, I toss some cheap righty killers against ya, and take my chances with Ruth. There are many sub 3 mill pitchers than can shut out your righty hitters, you need a lefty bat for balance.

Hack will be ok, not great, but ok

maybe downgrade camp to Bailey, get a def, replacement for catcher than on the cheap......

Then with the extra $, UPGRADE bishop to McAullife

Maybe?

Ya know, the point you are at with your pitching staff, might as well go the whole way, downgrade your #1 and #2 starters, as cheap as you can get, and then.......

Upgrade McGwire to York

Just some random thoughts

OK, waivers just ended and I made several moves based on your suggestions. How does my team look now? What else can I do to improve?

I dropped Hack Wilson for Gorman Thomas.
dropped Greg Luzinski for Jose Canseco (Ruth to play LF)
dropped Max Bishop for Tony Lazzeri
dropped Sal Bando for a Carney Lansford/Denny Walling platoon
dropped Mark McGwire for a Deron Johnson/Steve Garvey platoon
dropped Roy Campanella for Yogi Berra
made improvements to my SP and RP

I added two LH bats to my lineup (Walling and Berra).

Am I any better off now?

My advice is to get out while you still can!
