Lineup Strategy - LRLR vs LLRR

Postby dplatt22 » Thu Oct 27, 2005 8:39 pm

Just curious if anyone wanted to share their opinions on this. I've tended to subscribe to the theory of mixing up the lefties and righties - I remember someone mentioning the benefits of attacking one-sided relievers.

Wondering now though if having a run of 2 or 3 hitting from the same side has more impact on one-sided starters.

Any thoughts?

I try to alternate RLRLR. I think it is just an old habit from fact-to-face leagues, to keep my opponent from maximizing extreme relievers. I'm not sure HAL is smart enough to attack a line-up that way. All else being equal, I alternate, but if I have a good reason not to, I'm not stuck on it.

I agree with Gamiam. Against a human opponent it is a good idea. I still do it to some extent but not obsessively.

Unless there are some extreme teams in my division, I'm almost always RLRL. Habit from FTF leagues too.

To a point, maybe .....

I wouldn't break up Raj and Aaron with Quirk just to alternate

I believe in lineup balance. HAL of course is awful but he also tends to bring in his relievers based on who's on deck, in my experience playing the solitaire computer game.

Thanks for your comments guys - I guess at the end of the day it doesn't matter as much as balancing out the obp and slugging.

I realised too after typing it out that any advantage you'd get over a starter by facing him with a string of opposite-siders would be negated the next inning when he faces all the guys from his strong side
