So my rosters were going final last night, so (being in Germany) I got up very early to see if there were any last minute changes of which I could take advantage. Well, I drop Russo and McCosky for S. Rice, Hubbell, and extra bullpen help - just under the wire, apparently, as I was not penalized for making the swaps.
Imagine my surprise when in my first series I see that McCosky and Russo both played!
I must have somehow inputted my changes after my lineups had closed out for the upcoming game but just before the roster went final.
Weird.

on the first Monday night, you have until the first games are played to make roster moves without being charged a penalty (usually around 12:45 am or so EST). The rosters that are used in the games, however, go final at around 10:00 pm EST. so yes, you can make moves and have the guys you drop still play in the first game.
I once dropped a pitcher like that, and he went out opening day and pitched a 1 hitter. the guy I replaced him with went out the next day and lasted 1 inning. I think HAL was sending me a message.

Unfortunately, the curse seems to have hit me. I only one a single game the first series (which witnessed Pete getting rocked for like 7 runs) with my only win being from the pitcher I cut.

Yup, I did that once. I dumped Carlton and Lemon from Y56 team in that window, and picked up Koosman. Carlton got a win opening night, and I later dumped Koosman to pick Carlton back up when Koos was something like 5-10.... Carlton finished around 9-5.... oh well.
live and learn!
