When I built this team, I had very high hopes for it. If you look closely, you will notice that everyone is a "1" on defense, my outfielders have good to great arms, everyone on the team is a 14 or better speed and everyone on the team has a positive clutch rating. I thought that would add up to a solid smallball team.

Boy was I wrong, they are 3rd in the league in scoring and last in the league in pitching.

Is this just a case of underperforming pitchers? Or have I just totally picked the wrong guys for my staff?

For goodness sakes, Honus Wagner is even playing GREAT DEFENSE! Check him out.

Advice, thoughts, suggestions and VALIUM greatly appreciated ....

well my 2 cents worth here is that its early dont panic. your run differential is less than a quater %. and you really havent got morgan and a few of your hitters going yet. your team obp is really low and you say your 3rd in league in scoring. when they all start heating up you should be fine. nelson better wake up also.

I think we've had this conversation before. Patience, patience, patience with smallball teams.

Doesn't always work, but panic rarely does.

I know you're right, take deep breath, breath into paper bag.

O.K., it's not so bad, normally, but as I said, I really had high hopes for this team and they just are driving me nuts .......... :x

0.54 mil Shoffner leading bullpen in innings is not a good sign. Alter settings to try and minimize him and get more innings for Rickert and Nelson. Althouh since he is your only R3 that might not be possible. Without dominant starters so you either do not need a bullpen or can have a single guy finish game off HAL is going to use that lone R3 guy no matter what you do. Bad news if he is a stinker like Shoffner. If you are going to go with a 7 man pitching staff I would prefer better pitchers, either some ace starters or at least one dominant bullpen guy who can rack up innings.

Valen, you're right, I kind of dropped the ball a little bit there, I've adjusted my settings a little which should keep Shoffner out of the game so much and funnel more innings to Nelson and Richert. Thanks!

I also shook up the lineup a tad, moved some guys up and down to try to get better results. Here's how I'm batting them, input and suggestions are always welcomed .........

Lineup vs. LHP

1. Wagner, Honus (R) SS
2. Morgan, Joe (L) 2B
3. Simmons, Al (R) LF
4. Meusel, Bob (R) RF
5. Chance, Frank (R) 1B
6. Collins, Jimmy (R) 3B
7. Doby, Larry (L) CF
8. Gibson, George (R) C
9. Pitcher P

For what it's worth, I think Honus' total bases may be wasted a bit at the top of the order when you've got Chance to get on base for you there. Maybe switch him to 3rd and push Al back to 4th so he's got another to knock in?

Desperate times call for desperate measures, maybe I"ll give it a shot. Thanks!

I'm a Doby fan, in the right park. When I use him in parks like yours he hits .220 for me. Conversely, against lefties you can bat him 2nd sometimes, as he has some OBP. Also with Morgan batting 2nd it sort of wastes the stolen base threat of the leadoff hitter b/c of all his walks. So, I'd probably lead him off for a small ball team. Prefer some speed in front of Simmons. So

vs. R at home
Morgan
Meusel
Wagner
Simmons
Chance
Collins
Doby
Gibson

In HR parks on the road I would move Doby up 1. I like Chance 5th for the stolen base threat given that your 6-8 hitters aren't that productive offensively. Also Hal shouldn't walk Simmons at all intentionally with Chance and his + clutch behind him.

I would try to trade Doby for DiMaggio (the lesser) as he is a much, much better fit for your park. I bat Meusel second b/c I can't stand to see a guy with 20 gba bat second and he only has 18.

Also don't think much of your pitching. It's not horrible but no really good values there among the starters, that really take advantage of your park.

You also aren't utilizing Roe. No reason he can't start 16 times at home during the season, in Griffith. Now there is a value pitcher.
