Here's a team that starts play on Monday @ Baker . Division is Polo 11, The Stick and Yanks 27 . League overall is hitters parks .

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/atg2/team/team_other.html?user_id=88986

Weaver
Schoendienst
Hernandez
Banks / Yaz
Yaz / Reggie
Reggie / Banks
Simmons
Carter

This what I have as of now . Can tinker with it til I get these boys cranking . The reason I have Hernandez 3rd is trying to take advantage of his walks , same with Yaz & Reggie . And yes Buck is leading off .

Whatcha think ?

Hmmmm. Buck & Red are batting 1-2 & Al Simmons is hitting 7th. Is this by chance a theme league featuring Bizarro batting orders?
I think you need a leadoff man. You might also consider getting another sub-$1M SP like Rommell to handle the 4th starter role with Bennett & Cvengros & put the $4M savings into your offense.

Juma I have 4 starters . Bennett or Cven may get an occassional start in pitchers parks .

I know no one likes the idea of Buck leading off but he 99% of the time does a great job in that role for me . Red has the only B-B bunting , h&r rating so he can move Buck over . Then its bombs away ! Hernandez , Yaz, and Reggie gets alot of walks and Ernie and Simmons can clear them off . At least at this point they can . Like I said I can tinker away as the season goes .

Agree with Randy, Buck is not recommended as lead-off guy, Red batting 2nd is also a concern.

Here are your numbers:

vs RH
OBP 0.381
SLG 0.479
OPS 0.860
HR 4.2
PBHRs 43
vs LH
OBP 0.389
SLG 0.521
OPS 0.910
HR 4.4
PBHRs 40

I would consider May for Carter and then scrape together enough cash to get Hornsby or Foxx, your OBP seems a bit low to me. I do not see value in Bennet and Cven, $1M to put to good use. Rommel and Lea could be your 4th SP and the $$ could go to an upgrade elsewhere. Hernandez at 1B at Baker seems a bad fit, McCovey would be better.

Lots of options, not sure you are there yet.

Von,

Sorry man, but I gotta agree that your team is fine, but your lineup's gotta go.

I usually bat Yaz 2nd against LHP's (good OBP, low DP's). Weaver just doesn't get on enough to bat 1st. Red's lack of speed and terrible clutch will hurt you too. Both Buck and Red are great values at the bottom of the order, plus they are similar hitters, high BA, low OBP.

Also, couldn't you trade in Lolich and Bennett for say Mogridge??? It would make me a lot more comfortable.

I'd bat Banks 3rd against LHP's and Yaz 3rd against RHP's and Simmons 4th against both to protect them. Carter 5th and Reggie 5th against LHP's and RHP's respectively.

Buck could easily bat 6th in this lineup both ways if you wanted.

Or, can you trade in Reggie for a true leadoff hitter. Usually plenty of lefty RF's out there with high OBP.

You could get by with Hernandez at 1B, he'd hit .300 plus with about 20 HR's in that park and give you good defense to go along with a .400 OBP. (you could do worse, let's put it that way). Problem is, almost all of your big bats are all right handed, I'd just throw Mudcat Grant at you and dare Reggie to beat me.

Just my 2 cents.

I moved the boys around a tad . Buck will do fine leading off though , I know he will , always does . He's lead off on many of my Baker teams and will hit over 300 w/ a obp 350 plus he has speed to steal a few . I think my pitching will do ok . Its no stellar staff but doable . As long as I outscore my opponants then era 's don't matter much , the "W" is what counts . :D

Thanks for the input everyone . Its not that I'm not listening but we all have quirks that make us unique to the game . Buck is a good quirk to have for $1.60M.

Do what you want, but the only LH SPs in your division are Mogridge, Pfiester and Osteen, the rest are RHs including Pete. Your relatively low OBP and SLG against RHs might be your demise, Carter, Banks, Weaver and somewhat Red really stink in OBP vs RHs, can't imagine that you will score as many runs as you would like/need. Simmons hits, but his card's OBP vs RH is barely above .400, Yaz also has an OBP vs RH of .424.

Buck at leadoff is a big mistake.
