still searching first atg2 title, and looking to void my qualification for first time ring fling leaguel. have had success in dunn, and hitter's parks, but never all the way to WINNING a finals. which park/parks to you find the most success in building a playoff/championship team. pitchers or hitters parks, minimum ratio of salary on pitching/hitting to be successful. thanks for any sharing on this thanksgiving weekend.

I think it's been shown that it is easier to win in pitcher's parks or neutral parks than in hitters parks. The exception in my experience has been the parks with high homers but very low singles. Those seem to be successful as well.


The old standby forumla for winning, created by Dobak, the Yoda of ATG jedi, was to have one ace in the 10m range, 2 starters in the 7-5m range, and a 4th starter that fit the park and division, or rounded out the biases of the first three.

The bullpen still mystifies me, and seems to succeed more in response to the balance of the league and division than as a result of it's makeup. If your team wins easier, your pen looks better. If not, it doesn't matter who is in there, they'll look bad.

The old standard of defense (up the middle in particular) and as much of it spread about elsewhere is still valid. Odd, that this game, based entirely on numbers and percentages, is one place where defense is valued most. It would seem in real baseball, it becomes less and less important.

I think that the offense you build can vary greatly, and I tend to focus more on the defense and pitching first, and then worry about scoring later.

That's a rough start, and I'm not sure if I answered your question, but I enjoyed the ramble.

A perfect OF for me would be Furillo/Clemente (depending on $$) in RF, Dom/Dawson in CF (again, depending on $$) and Cuyler in LF.

Put Fox/Collins/Gehringer/Schoendienst at 2B, Ozzie/Honus/Concepcion/Bowa at SS and Schalk/Gibson/Sanguillen at C, Weaver/Pendelton at 3B and Chance/Judge at 1B and spend the rest on SPs with a couple 1-3 mil and a couple .5-1 mil RPs, and you have a playoff team.

Set yourself up in Forbes.Griff, draft the key guys, like Kiki and Meusel early, and spend the rest on SPs. I suggest either two $10M SPs and two $4-5M SPs or three $10M SPs and Rommel/Speer. If you feel lucky, take Pete #1.

I have won 4 titles in fenway, but you have to really know what you are doing to win there. Polo and Hunington are easier as far as hitting goes.

thanks boyz, keep it coming. very interesting sschu, based on watching other successful teams which seem to manhandle me head to head, and looking back on my 90+ win teams, I was building a team very similarr to what you suggested. just made some drops to get ozzie at ss, and put weaver at 3b, now trying to fill out. ofcourse this is all pre-draft, and includes ol pete, so no telling how the auto will undo everyting. thinking of atleast playing in comiskey if not an even more pitcher friendly confine.

I build 2 types of teams. Fenway/Baker Bowl teams or Griffith's/Forbes teams. I will use Huntington or Polo if I have a bad streak of Fenways and Bakers since it is easier to win in Polo or Huntington than the other 2.

The surest way to win is pitching parks with high dollar pitchers withe the RIGHT hitters (i.e. not expensive but produce in a Forbes or Griffith type of stadium).

The above post credited to Munich Man is an easy way to build a winner. It is getting harder and harder to get those guys, though.

Give me Eddie Collins, Ozzie Smith or Wagner, Weaver, Dom D, Meusel, and Clemente and I guarantee 95+ wins.
