December 7, 1941....Pearl Harbor....64 years today. Let us remember the fallen and also the few survivors. The Japs didn`t have a clue. Nor the followers of Hitler and the Muss Man from Italy.

I can tell someone is still living in the past. How about showing a bit of PCness?

Goldwater, As somebody who has visited Pearl Harbor and stood in the Arizona memorial, I can't tell you the emotion your overcome with reading the names of those still "on Patrol." Historically though, the Japanese did have a clue as to what they were doing at Pearl as they followed our own blueprint for an attack by Adm. Harry Yarnell in a 1932 joint Army-Navy exercise which presumed an invasion by hostile forces.
"Yarnell, in the role of the commander of the attacking fleet, sailed his aircraft carriers northwest of Oahu into rough weather, and launched attack planes on the morning of Sunday, 7 February 1932. "Judges" assigned to gauge the effectiveness of the attack noted that Yarnell's aircraft were able to inflict serious damage on the defenders, who were unable to locate his fleet 24 hours after the attack. Conventional Navy doctrine of the time believed that any attacking force would be set upon and destroyed by the battleship fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor, and dismissed Yarnell's strategy and attack." I'm not making this point to defend the attack on Pearl by any means. Just a firm believer in the old axiom "those who do not pay heed to the lessons of history are doomed to repeat those mistakes." I find that relevant even to this day in light of recent events.

Thank you, Simon. Well said, my Friend. Our town just buried out last Pearl Harbor susvivor. We did have two. I don`t know anything about the Bullpen, as Play by the rules, suggested, but, as you said I am glad that I posted December 7, 1941....because, if we don`t remember, we are doomed to repeat.

Then I suppose proper etiquette would be a friendly discussion to tell you about it. Each of the forums has a designated are for everyone to discuss things of importance to them but not related to the forum. In the strato area that one is called the bullpen. In this MLB section that forum is called the dugout.
The purpose is to be able to discuss topics of importance to you with the friends you have made here. But TSN realizing that some do not wish to discuss some topics such as politics, religion, etc in what is supposed to be a forum for baseball created the dugout forum. Going there with topics like this will not bother those who might be offended by the off topic post. And those who are here specifically to discuss baseball news can know that all posts they find are baseball related.
Hope you receive this in the spirit it was offered. :D

Well said, Valen, but in my experience people post all kinds of non-baseball material in here -- just check some of the posts from Veterans Day (November 11). I agree that this is not the proper forum for me to attack George Bush and his administration, or Harry Reid and the Congressional Democrats. Nor is it the appropriate forum for discussions related to the relative merits (or lack thereof) of different religious societies. It is probably appropriate to tell me I'm being a jerk, or other things like that.
Anyway, go for it, Goldwater! (And feel free all of you to call me any name you like! We can have bash a lawyer day!)

Thanks, Geezer. Never heard of PCNess until today. I was born 8 April, 1941 then that bad day happened in December. My Mom and Dad, both deceased, show me the little store in Coweta, Oklahoma that we were coming out of when they heard the news. That little store is still there, Geezer. buried my Dad in Coweta November last year and went in to the little store. Goosebumps and teary eyes, my friend. Keep the faith. Hey, I found the Bullpen. Going to go there now.
