New Theme League - Birthday League - SIGN UPS IN PROGRESS

Postby doctrcpa » Mon Jan 02, 2006 10:31 pm

For Christmas I received a baseball stadium calendar. On this calendar, it gives the name of 1 player or baseball person who was born on every day of the year. For example, George Steinbrenner is the person listed for July 4th.

This calendar got me thinking of a new theme idea that I don't know if it has been tried. I probably came up with this idea since I am down to the last week of getting my clock cleaned in one of those alphabet theme leagues.

So here is the theme idea: There are 12 months in a year and also 12 teams in a Strat league. Each person would pick one month of the year and could make up a team of players who were born during that month.

I have done zero research on this so far, but figured that I would toss this out there to gauge interest and determine whether it makes sense to do the lengthy research required for all of the ATG players birth dates. Unless someone else already has a spreadsheet with the player's birth dates?

I wonder if February with only 28/29 days would be at a disadvantage?

Let me know what you think. Thanks. :D

That sounds like a great idea!

I would join if it starts in February, since I am busy commish in one league geting a third season going, and getting ready for another league.

But, what cool concept. With 1,000 players, that's an average of 3 people per day for the whole year. So, I would assume that even February's 29 days would make up a decent pool of players. Heck, with roughly 100 players per month, I bet you could even limit it to dead players if you needed to. :D ;)

Which leads me to a morbid thought for a league: Take your idea, but instead of birthdays.... deathdays..... :D

Your logic is flawed as to even distribution

It's colder in the winter, so more babies are born in August and September

Hey, I'm now thinking of anniversaries of deaths here... logic does not enter into the picture ;)

Notice the relative dearth of players born in January and July. That seems like a pretty big disadvantage right there. If no trading or FA pickups are allowed, then there will be a couple teams that will not be very competitive. I would hate to be in a situation where I didn't at least have the illusion of having a chance to compete.

I take April and would prefer no trading.

How do you know their birthdays?

I'll do this and I'll take December in honor of my foster daughter's birthday in December ! I would eventually need a complete list of birthdays to make a team

I won't be participating, but I will produce a list of players born by month.
