Speaker or Mayes in Yankee Stadium '56

Postby skisail42 » Sat Jan 07, 2006 10:38 am

I've landed left hitting speaker, but can change to Righty Mayes at YS '56.... Any thoughts, I like Mayes but speaker has been a consistant hitter. Does the righty power trump the lefty slapper at this stadium.? Thanks in advance, SS42

If by Mayes you mean MAYS, as in Willie, I'd take Willie. I'd also take Mantle and Snider in CF at Yankee 56, instead of Speaker. Other than those three, Speaker would probably be next choice, with possibly the exception of Joe D. :)

Mays is grand in any park, Speaker is also good, but moreso in pitchers park.

The problem with either in Yankee 56 is you likely have your most expensive player not a good fit for your park. I would try to get both first, if affordable, and then Mays and arrange a trade. Snider is your ideal Yankee 56 CF, Mantle is workable, Doby on the cheap. Other quality Y56 players include Mathews, Yaz, Reggie Jackson, Dickey, May and Cash.

Best of luck, sschu

Mays in Yankee 56' which will allow you to load up with LH bats, as he KILLS LHP.

Speaker is very underrated and underused however, IMO. Mays is nearly impossible to get.

Since you're not me, I would say Mays. Mays always underperforms for me and is not worth 11 mil. I can never seem to get more than a .260 BA with .320 OBP with around 35-40 HRs.

Speaker rocks.

I've used Mays in lefty parks several times. Invariably his stats suffer greatly. Once I even traded him for Duke midseason in Dunn. My experience has been that his performance decrement in such parks weighs much more heavily than any putative protection he affords the lefties in your lineup.

This team sucked, Mays didn't.
