Had a pretty bad AD. Made some moves using Diamond Dope and came up with these guys. I'm a little nervous about going to battle with them. I've never used Yankee '27 and generally go with pitchers parks.

Just took a quick glance... your pitchers don't match up with your park. You need guys with no BP HRs.

A couple of things...

Hodges is a chronic underperformer. I would try and replace him with ripper, boog, coop, etc...just never seems to perform up to his card

I do not like a 3 at 2B, especially when I am in a hitters park. 2 minimum, 1 of course is what i prefer. I would look to upgrade here.

Fernandez is not my fav ss, but at least he is a 1 who cannot get hurt.

As raslavens said, you want sp's with no bphrs, and with the exception of Cicotte, they all have them. I would actually be tempted to downgrade Cicotte, to hughson, dean type, and up grade my other starters a bit, with $$ left over to improve at 2b or ss...

Drafted Hoyt thinking that he should do well in Yankee '27 since he actually pitched there. He should do well in that park, no?

Anyone tried him there?

Two bits of advice:

Don't think that a player will perform best in their team's home park. You gotta look at the card. For example, Willie Mays played in Candlestick but he'll underperform there since his BP HRs will turn into outs. Meanwhile, he'll go nuts in Polo. Hoyt is rarely used in ATGII in any park. He's simply too imbalanced and there are too many good LH hitters that will tear him up.

Don't look at the raw stats. Gotta look at the card! The raw stats give you a general idea of how they'll perform. An even better (but still imperfect) "blink" judgement is the player's price. TSN has for the most part accurately priced these guys. (Catfish Hunter's raw stats are awesome but he is priced under $2M because he has so many BP HRs and is imbalanced.) Once you've figured a price range for a given position/slot, you then need to look closely at the actual SOM cards to figure out who's the best value in a given park.

Better yet, go to www.diamonddope.com. They've done all the "card" work for you.

I use diamond dope quite extensively. Hoyt looked pretty good there too. Maybe I'm mistaken.

Any other thoughts? Made one move so far. Threw Hoyt back in for Demeree (no BPHRs). I have a little $ to get another 2B (Gordon is available at the moment).

Gordan makes sense, in that he hits more homers, but your team is still shy of homers, I think. You do not want to be outhomered in your home park, if you are in one. I would look to try to get more homers into the lineup. There are a lot of bargains salivating at the thought of playing in that park, where theirs can be transformed into Ruthian abilities. For example Steinfeldt, a personal favorite of mine in a pitcher's park. While never a bad choice...somebody has to be on base, after all to turn the homers into three run homers, at third base there are a lot of relatively inexpensive guys that can homer under the right circumstances. Perhaps you could go for one of those and then beef up your OBP somewhere else where the homers are harder to come by.

It sounds like a no brainer...take Gordon right? But I've seen what Avila can do in that ballpark and diamond dope says #s are good there.
