Which AL? Simmons or Kaline?

I know it sounds like a stupid question, but look a little closer ...

I've got a pitching and defense team playing in Griffith '24, the league has another 6 or 7 extreme pitchers parks. My division is ALL pitchers parks.

I currently have Chick Gandil at 1B and I picked up Al Simmons in waivers. But, I have the option of dropping those two and picking up Al Kaline and Cecil Cooper. I know, dropping Al Simmons is heresy, but hear me out ......

Gandil is a 15 game injury risk and a 14 speed.

Cooper is bulletproof and also a 14 speed with alot more power, same defense and lower gb A's. Plus, he gives me another LH bat.

Simmons is a STRAT GOD who is only a 3 game injury risk, has a -1 arm and a 13 speed.

Kaline is a high injury risk, but he has a -3 arm, a 14 speed and actually has a higher OBP in Griffith than Simmons.

Am I nuts for considering dropping Simmons. I offered him up for trade and only got one inquiry in 24 hours.

Al Simmons's card in Griffith is a .415 BA with a .700Slgging Al Kaline is nowhere close .321 with a .415 SLG. Most of the extra OBP you are talking about is coming from walks. Al is a legit #3 hitter against lefties and righties. I would consider getting a different 1B unless your divison is righty loaded. Kaline's card is actually very lefty oriented so against righties is quite weak - his card against lefties in 600 AB's will produce 52 doubles vs 7 against righties.

The additional problem at this point is if you release him without getting a top 10 player back you will be making a competitor much stronger. I would definetly keep him.

I have used Simmons in pitcher parks, due to his lower OBP, he can sometimes "underperform". By that I mean he wont hit .340 with 45 2Bs and 40 HRs.

His glove, durability, flexibility and hitting make him a player you want on virtually any team IHMO. Certainly Gandils' downside can be overcome. Simmons is solid trade bait, either trade him or keep him.

Hear me now, believe me later..............Kaline is FAR too much of an injury risk and Simmons is OUTSTANDING IN ANY STADIUM

I'm in that league with you, and you really gotta keep Simmons.

It Chuck's D right out the window, but in a $60M league I have Crawford at 1b.

Yeah, NEV, several others have echoed the same thing, I'm gonna rework a couple of other spots, but keep Simmons.

Thanks all for the input.

For what its worth....

....Injuries don't scare me

.....Meusel and Clemente are two of my favorites

.....I sort of play in Griffith a lot

.....I don't even think about using Kaline

So....I agree with the others about keeping Simmons
