Smallball Question - Drysdale

Smallball Question - Drysdale

Postby uvm87 » Thu Jan 26, 2006 1:56 pm

I'm back!! Been away from Strato for about 8 months and I seem to have forgotten everything I knew. I'm trying my first smallball team, pre-draft still.

Anyone ever use Drysdale in Forbes? Diamond Dope numbers make him a huge value for the short money. Also Ruffing looks good. Any opinions?

Big D in Forbes:

21 12 0 297.1 299 134 73 154 4.06 1.25 2R 4.12M
19 15 0 283.0 274 114 69 118 3.63 1.21 2R 4.12M

I wouldn't spend the $$ on Ruffing. Gibson, Boyd, Knepper et al are fine.

Drysdale a good bargain, Hunter even better as long as you prevent him from pitching in anything but extreme pitcher's parks like Forbes. I also really like Erskine and Cuellar.

I can't say that I've used Big D in Forbes but I assume his great work in LA 65 and Comisky 59 would be acceptable.

Lolich is one of my best small ball pitchers. Others would be Blue and Carlton.

Interesting. I was going to go with 2 $10M studs, Drysdale and my alltime fav, Jimmy Key. Should I save the big $$$ and go for pitchers like Blue, Carlton, Lolich and put the money into OBP, or do I still need 2-3 studs at the top of the draft board?

Someone using Drysdale in Dodger in one of my leagues:
7 3 0 102.0 71 36 31 64 3.18 1.00
I would recommend Seaver also. $10mm results for 2/3 the cost:
6 5 0 99.2 76 28 22 67 2.53 .98

Have used Drysdale many times in Forbes, Griffith etc. He's kind of hit or miss. He can have a sub 3.00 e.r.a. occasionally or be up in the high four's. So much depends on the other parks and how many lefties he faces on average.

Drysdale won 24 games for me in Candlestick, thats the best park for him.
