Had some fun putting together a greatest cubs team-80 million cap.
Heres the starting line up:
Player BA HR RBI
1. Cuyler RF .360 15 102
2. Sandberg 2B .306 40 100
3. Wiliams LF .322 42 129
4. Sosa CF .308 66 158
5. Santo 3B .289 29 123
6. Chance 1B .327 2 81
7. Tinker SS .278 4 69
8. Archer C .253 4 41
9. Jenkins P 2.63 ERA

It is quite the challenge to fit all the great cub players you would like under the salary cap. I went with defence/speed over power in several positions (because of economics). It is hard to leave Hornsby, Banks and Wilson off the team!

It would be fun to have a league of all time great teams.

if you are playing sosa in CF you are ignoring defense. switch cuylers and play cuyler in CF and sosa in RF. batting chance anywhere besides the leadoff spot is a mistake as well.

Chance 1B .327 2 81
Cuyler RF .360 15 102
Wiliams LF .322 42 129
Sosa CF .308 66 158
Santo 3B .289 29 123
Sandberg 2B .306 40 100
Tinker SS .278 4 69
Archer C .253 4 41
Jenkins P 2.63 ERA

Cuyler was set up to play RF/LF.
I like your lineup--thanks for the input.

I'll take my chances with Hornsby, Banks, Hack and 6 random Cubs against what you put together. And Maddux 1992.

Chicago Cubs would be a force in a All Time Greatest Team league--there are just so many great players to choose from in the last 100 years. How about a greatest teams league? You would only be able to draft players connected to the SOM team database.

Your interest in all-time teams is shared by many and as such there have been a multitude of franchise leagues that have played and are playing. Some have been at the 80 mil cap but most of these leagues are at the 100 mil to 140 mil range.

Keep an eye on the boards for the next ones; many of us are involved in such leagues with multiple-season commitments whereby each owner rotates to manage a different team each time (e.g. Pirates, then Reds, then Yankees, etc).

The franchise leagues are popular and often involve slightly different rules in each variation, such as how to assign all-time greats who have multiple teams, etc. Usually the Negro League players constitute a separate franchise in these leagues, but there have been a number of intriguing innovations.

While the Cubs indeed have a number of great players most other franchises do also, so competition is fierce. For the exercise of it (and good prep for jumping into such a league) take a shot at building your own all-time teams from each franchise and look at the results. ( Just to make explicit what is implicit here, these franchise leagues typically involve the long-standing franchises and not the newer or expansion ones unless they are lumped together to form one squad. For example a Seattle Mariners all-time team would not fare too well against the Yankees or Cardinals!)

Anyway, it looks like you are new to Strat so I hope you enjoy the fun! Folks are generally most helpful on this site so never hesitate to seek some counsel.

and for what it is worth, despite the high ticket talent, Cubs theme teams do not tend to win much in franchise based theme leagues.

Not that I'm much of a cubs fan but this franchise team made me a fan (note Hornsby was not allowed on this team because he can only play for the St.L franchise in this particular themed league). Too bad this team got rocked in the finals by the NeL franchise.
