Cap penalty impact on trading

I have traditionally philosophically preferred 5/10/20 drop penalty.
But I am curious what others think about it specifically relating to trade activity. Do you think having the 20% drop hit from day one results in substantial motivation to seek improvement via trade instead of drop/adds? Or do you think most people exhibit the same preference between using FA market verses trades to improve teams regardless of what the cap penalty is?
How does it impact your decision making?

Hardly at all. Too difficult to work out the $$ anyway, whether it is a 5/10/20 or straight 20%.
Which is why I continue to beat the drum for:
Drop/adds in conjunction with trades.

I would concur with Andy's thoughts and his recommendations; the salary issues usually preclude any interest I have in trades because most teams are right at the cap and even players with reasonably similar salaries can make the move impossible.

I agree with Andy as well. It would resuly in more trades and more realism/
I'd rather make a trade than pay the drop penalty

I make as many trades as anyone and generally check for trade possibilities before I cut someone, as I hate to pay the drop penalty. By checking for trade possibilities, I mean checking other rosters to see if there is anyone who can help me who is worth pursuing. Most of the time I end up just cutting the player and picking up a FA. When the cut penalty is 20% I'll hang onto the slumping player a little longer before even considering cutting him. I also search a little harder for potential trades, as the 20% cut penalty is really draconian. - Bernie W

I wish there were an option to not play with any penalties. That's the main reason I've always stayed away from the lower cap games.

I wish there were an option to play without any trades, at least after the season starts. I've seen too many leagues damaged by "fire sales" and other even shadier maneuvers.

Or maybe make it so that anything sub $1 million is written off in the trade.
ie. Andy's Chino Smith / Frank Robinson deal ($.20 )
