Can anybody explain HAL?

Can anybody explain HAL?

Klu, Pope, Northrup and Ward sitting on the bench in a 5 to 7 game in the 9th, Reniff pitching, Galarraga and Roenicke both avoid righties... And Hal does nothing!!!!!!!

I know, you can argue that if we pinch hit Roberts comes in before Yaz, but it's a lefty ballpark, and Klu and Northrup have better power and on base numbers vs. a lefty than The Big Cat and Roenicke against a righty! :? :x

HAL doesn't like to pinch hit for heart of the order guys. He has this odd notion that someone batting in the middle of the order shouldn't be yanked because that's where you'd put your best bats.

I've had a lot of, uhm, disappointment with Galarraga because of this. Even though he's pretty godly against LHP, I wouldn't bat him higher than 6th or 7th, so HAL will switch him.

I'm not sure how HAL feels about leadoff and #2 batters... but 3-4-5... he doesn't like pinch hitting for them, even if the player setting is to avoid and to allow PH/PR. A thought would be to put him in the 2 hole, and see what HAL makes of that.

I had an interesting season somewhere with a Galarraga/Briggs platoon at first... Briggs batted further down the lineup, 6th or 7th, and was pulled for Andres a lot more frequently than Andres was pulled for Briggs.

Thanks PKB now if I just had somebody besides Galarraga or Roenicke to bat in the 3,4 or 5 holes. Charleston, Yaz, or Dickey (likely candidates) are lefties and most of the lefty starters are strong against lefties. BRobby is the only righty that might fit, but I don't like him in any of those spots. Oh-well, Just have to live with HAL's decisions now and hope for the best.

HAL does other interesting things. I have a team where Giles leads off and Mazeroski 66 bats 9th (and tries to make up for Giles' [lack of] defense). So far, HAL has twice given Maz an IBB with 2 outs and RISP (and a RHP on the hill) to get to Giles. So far, nothing thrilling for my side has happened, but the season is young. I can't imagine this is a winning long term plan for HAL to follow against me.

no explanation - HAL manages more like Grady Little than Sparky Andrson thats for sure. and of course, there is NORMALIZATION built in - the game is not based on just the card results

The move is essentially to let them be and take some lumps. And be wiser for the next go at team construction.
