so, I'm using Mr. 666 at second base, and wondering, can you win with Kent + a 2e2X SS, or should I give a little on offense to the defense and get a 1e1X shortstop?

Have a 1eX first baseman and a 2e1X third baseman.

Thoughts?

slightly off topic but...

I wonder how many people use the pitcher's cards to determine what type of SS/2B defensive ratings they need? I do. I'd worry less about Kent's defense if the pitcher's cards weren't chock-full of gb2Bx on the 7 (or I'd seek out pitcher's cards that didn't have it).

All of the pitcher's cards have the same X chances.

Don't have the link handy but i've won a championship with a leaky D middle infield of Solly Hemus and Arky Vaughan. My last championship team had Jeff Kent on the roster but he was my first baseman.

I have played in Hilltop with Kent as my 2B. I usually try to have a 1 at SS when I have Kent at 2B. I have used a 2 at SS with Kent.

The X chances are always the same for all pitchers. Kind of primitive actually. Guys like Johnson should have fewer X chances. None of the x stuff takes into account gb vs fb pitchers. It should. That stuff can be as important as lefty righty matchups. In the real world of course, not in Strat.

Where you can use pitcher's card results (not X rolls) is with OF arms, i.e. have a staff who give up hits mostly to a given fielder. Like Clemente. :o

2, 3 , 4=7?? LMAO In Strat 2, 3, 4 =6.

Back in '96 the Tribe traded fan favorite Carlos Baerga for Jeff Kent (there were others involved). My Dad asked me what I knew about Kent.

"All you need to know about Jeff Kent is that he's a complete stiff." I says.

Nailed it.

My old man still busts my chops about that.

True story.

Sorry, carry on.

Basically, the question is, given an infield of:
1B - Mattingly 86
2B - Kent
3B - Decinces 82

and having a budget in the 4.2M and under range,

Do you go with:
A bat at short: like Vern Stephens or Pee Wee Reese (yes, I know he's not a power bat, but he's a decent OBP option for the money at the position)
or a glove, like Aparicio 66 or Concepcion 75.

A touch further background. Playing in the Cell (US Cellular 05... Kingdome 78 plus).
