What a disaster! I required that each player be a "natural" LF (LF listed as their primary position), and, as I filled in each roster slot, I tried to find the best defensive players with some offensive capability. As will come as no surprise, my defense was terrible, allowing baserunners on almost 45% of defensive chances (the league average was about 20%). Here's the roster:

C Heavy Johnson 4(0)e11
1B Joe Kelly 4e14
2B Tim Raines 4e32
SS Fred Clarke 4e36
3B Jackie Robinson 3e22
LF Ted Williams 3(0)e9
CF Charlie Keller 4(+1)e4
RF Billy Williams 3(0)e3

I went 67-95 -- still good for third in my division, at least!

Not suprising...most would not even use any one of those (maybe Teddy Ballgame) as a staring LF..

I dunno -- I got great production out of Heavy Johnson (equal to Williams), and Fred Clarke had a solid season. I would use him again in the right context.

Not at shortstop, though ...

The Tim Raines card actually "looks" pretty good to me. I have used him a few times but he seems to under perform in most cases.

You could put together a heck of an offense if you relaxed the requirement to anyone rated in LF. You could field a lineup of

DH - Suttles
C - Gibson
1B - Greenberg 40
2B - Evers
3B - Jud Wilson
SS - Dihigo
LF - Bonds 01
CF - Stearnes
RF - Ruth 21

Total salary - 89.96 million.
