Yes, players get tired if they have to stand for the whole game.

only on winning teams. can have a huge impact with defensive subs in latter innings. that begs the question, if your team is winning so hal will use the defensive subs, wouldn't your team still win anyway? the other yes would be if you'fe forced to keep a higher priced bench player for the injury bug. hell, i don't know :?:

Yes, in non-DH leagues, having a couple of good pinch hitters, as well as a pinch runner with a 17 can help you win a couple of games.

So, yes. 15 game injury guys do need something like a solid backup.

But, say you are in a DH league. You have an outfield of Expensive Bonds, Expensive Ted and Charleston, with Cheap Evers, injury proof Crosetti, Lindstrom, and a 600 PA DH...

Expand the depth a bit by platooning at first (also balance the lineup a bit) and I have a .50 catcher I like (that no one else seems to know about).

Should I worry much about picking 4-5th outfielders, a pinch runner, a backup third baseman, etc? Would you? Will they matter much?

i look for some duality in bench players. for instance a late inning defensive replacement who is also a good baserunner/stealer so that he can be used for multiple roles.

i also notice that some guys pick a cheap 5th starter who can only start and does not get used throughout the season. i pick a 5th starter who can also relieve and is usually a slanted righty or lefty and use him as a relief specialist.

so try not to have any dead money on your roster.
