NEED HELP.....OPINIONS/FEEDBACK PLEASE

[b:77d684cb0a]I think I've totally lost it, been playing for quite awhile, 40+ teams but I seem to have hit a brick wall. Last 3 leagues I've wound up in last place and by the end of the first half I'm already out of it. Any opinions or suggestions on my team would be greatly appreciated.

I am in this league with you and you have a lot of work to do on this team. Check the league mail, I gave you some ideas.

1. Too many RP. Too much salary invested in the bottom 3 guys. Bullpen should be two studs, a $2-2.5 million guy, and a couple of sub-1 matchup guys. Archie McKain, Joe Pate, Joe Page are names that come to mind for the #3 slot.
2. Gibson is not a good fit in this park. Unless your league is full of RH parks, change him out for more balance.
3. Ripper Collins has no business being in a $140 million league. Generally, switch-hitters are bad fits for lefty-leaning or righty-leaning parks, since nobody is going to start a pitcher that lets him use the good side of the park if they can help it. Bulletproof Mattingly, Fielder, Howard, or even Dolph Camilli would do better, although for more money.
4. You need at least one reverse LH bat and one reverse RH bat (better against same-sided pitching) to cope with the ballparks in your division. Chipper is going to be next to useless in Hilltop or MM. (see comment about switch-hitters above)
5. You really need to find a way to upgrade to the good Aaron card.
6. $1.99 is way, way too much to spend for a backup catcher, especially one with over 600 PA. You have tied up 1.4% of your salary on a guy who won't get 40 PA's. Suicide.

You need to cut your bench salary in half, and upgrade your starting lineup as much as possible, starting with Aaron.

1- Take a stand on the pen. Drop either Mossi or McGraw. Voila. 4.5+M for upgrades.

2- Drop George Gibson for a $.50 catcher. IRod will miss, at most (on average) 6 games. $2M is way too much. Voila. We're up to $6M saved.

3- Not sure what Oquendo does here, exactly. Replace with someone who does most of it for <$1M. Voila, we now have $7.5-8M to spend.

In your home park, lefty suppression is key. Thus, as noted, Gibson is not a great fit. Tradeable though.

I am not as allergic to switch hitters in unbalanced parks as others, assuming they can make it work. If people in your league have rotational flexibility, you will see lefties, putting Chipper's power on the shelf, a bit. DD says he'll be okay though, so I dunno that you need to do something there.

Agree that Ripper Collins needs ripping. Fortunately, we've already saved enough to turn him into something much larger. Lefty thump. Upgrade to big Hank too.

Lineup needs a bit more lefty thump.

I liked what you wrote. Used it to find the money to upgrade Aaron. Pinged Oquendo as spare parts, differ on Chipper.

Thanks for the advice, I upgraded to Big Hank, dropped McGraw, Gibson< Oquendo and Chipper. Upgraded to Grove big card, added David Wright and dropped Ripper and replaced him with Helton. So far 6-3 to start. At least I'm not out of it yet. :D
