SO, here is why I have been posting trades and offers:

Both are from a live draft league where managers can choose stadiums.
One of these trades took place and the other was an offer from the same manager:

Please give your opinions and I will also say what stadiums the managers
ended up picking after the deadline. (remember in live we can choose)
After some opinions are given I will tell you which trade took place and which didnt- and why Im posting here if there is a question.

Trade Number 1:
McGwire, Mark (1998) ($11,090,000)
Cedeno, Cesar (1972) ($10,550,000)
Hafey, Chick (1929) ($7,420,000)
For:
Cash, Norm (1961) ($8,730,000)
Dawson, Andre (1980) ($7,210,000)
Ruth, Babe (1921) ($15,100,000)

Trade Number 2:
Suzuki, Ichiro (2004) ($7,440,000)
Lofton, Kenny (1994)($7,790,000)
Bender, Chief (1910) ($9,640,000)
Jackson, Joe (1911) ($9,110,000)
For:

Trade 1 is interesting. Would have to see associated rosters to truly pick.
Not crazy about Dawson. But Ruth would be a big enticement. And I have had some very nice seasons out of Cash. So response probably depends on my CF situation. Do I have an alternative for Cedeno? If yes I accept. If not I might decline because CF is usually not well represented in FA listing.

Trade one might look attractive to a new player but anyone who is familiar with capless leagues would realize that Ruth and Cash alone far outweigh the other three guys offered.

Trade 2:
Not crazy about Suzuki or Lofton at 200 mil or nocap. So basically giving up Bender and Jackson. Doby has never given me much at 200 mil so would not expect much capless.

Have not had a chance to use the new Jackson so probably decline. But if I had used him previously to take that out of picture the trade has some merits.

Ross has given me some nice seasons in platoons. Stargell I think of as a DH. I might want to pair one or both of these with a platoon partner. So their value might be judged somewhat by what is available either on roster or FA list for those roles. McGinnity would be a slight downgrade from Bender.

Another factor might be catchers in my division. All strong arms lowers value of the speed guys giving up. Relatively weak arms increases their value, especially if building team around that concept.

So in a vacuum I am rather neutral on the deal. Everything would depend on circumstances and what I was trying to do with that particular team.

#1 looks like a minute maid, hilltop, wrigley trade. #2 looks like a forbes/griffith for a sportsman/shea/leagye park, etc. trade?

As with all things in baseball, context is important to understanding. I don't play enough 200M to say one way or the other, but I can't say I fully understand either deal without looking at park and division.

Ballpark would be a very important factor in trade 1 because of the exchange of RH for LH bats.

Let me just clarify:

In a live league you can choose the parks you want until sunday midnight-
and salary is not an issue.

In trade one, after the trade (this one happened) the person did end up in Minute Maid, the one who took ruth simply went from Hilltop to Bennett to accommodate getting both Ruth and Cash.

In the second trade, of course you then have Bennett while the other manager is in Washington NeL- small ball park. This one was offered past the deadline so, Stargell would be going to Wash NeL while Joe Jax would be going to Bennett.

I guess what Im asking is basically, How many of you given those circumstances (no cap, stadium choice) envision trading mac and cedeno for ruth and cash?
Personally I dont think either Dawson or Hafey matter since both will likely hit sub. 200 in a live league.

same thing with the next trade...sure exact context matters- Ive given you the context, LIVE draft and You choose the stadiums.

So how many of you would take Mac and Cedeno for Ruth and Cash?

Trade 1 is one of those deals that is really, really frustrating to see in a league... unless you happen to be manager getting Ruth and Cash.

Trade 2 is lopsided as well... Doby and Youngs are NOT EVEN drafted in 20% to 35% of live drafts. McGinnity and Stargell are round 9-10 type guys. Compare that to Bender/JoeJ who are both drafted by rounds 6-7... even Ichiro is frequently drafted ahead of Stargell let alone the new Joe Jackson... Lofton naturally is used a lot more than either Doby/Youngs. Even if you totally disregard the lesser pieces (Lofton/Ichiro and Doby/Youngs), and that is a big leap to do so, the Bender/Jackson pair is at least 4-6 rounds higher in value than the Stargell/McGinnity pair.

My 3.5 cents...

Basically what petro said. What's the old saying - a fool and his Cash and Ruth are easily parted.
