david cone, balk much?

so far he has 11 in 18 starts. seems a little high to me.

His S/R card has a BK-17 rating. That's gruesome. It means he is going to balk on about 1 in 25 runners who attempt to get a lead to steal.

This means that he'll have about one balk for every 4 or 5 actual SB attempts, which is a whole bunch. And, of course, since the site is out to get you, it is giving him more balks than normal. :P

My feeling is that the game system makes Balks, wild Pitches and passed balls to common.
I had a season where Mauer was getting a passed ball ever 3 games.

Regarding Cone's high rating, 1988 was the "year of the balk." Umpires were instructed to strictly enforce the rule that year, and the league-wide record for balks was broken by the sixth week of the season. Teddy Higuera from the same year is a BK 11, John Franco is a 9, and Dave Stewart a 17.
