Fellow SOMers:
I apologize for venturing away from SOM, per se, but I hold the opinions offered here in high regard -- enough that I will venture to seek responses to the following.
I am a photojournalist for a local newspaper and write an education column as well. At a recent high school event, I came across parents wearing sweatshirts with the following slogan: "Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead."
It is the "slogan of choice" for the school's boys cross country team, and apparently their other track teams as well.
I wrote a column as to the appropriateness of the slogan for high school runners.
I would appreciate your input so as to give me a greater sample than the one I have via email and conversations regarding the column.
So -- the question: In the general context of our society, is "trample the weak, hurdle the dead" an acceptable slogan for high school level athletes? All I need is a yes/no response, though comments are certainly welcome.
