If you go with a 5 man non * rotation, does the rest change for the playoffs? Meaning, can you drop the worst of the 5 starters from the rotation and pitch the best 4?

I do not believe that they get any extra rest. There are 2 rest days built in before the start of the playoffs regardless of if you have *pitchers or not.

Unfortunately, I don't believe you get any extra rest between playoff rounds . . . you get two days between the regular season and the first round of playoffs; but even if you sweep and your opponent goes the distance, you don't get any extra rest.

I wasn't even really referring to rest between rounds. I was more referring to rest within a single series. With the rounds going 2-2-1-1-1 I didn't know it you could then start a non * on "short rest, effectively making a 5 man rotation into a 4 man rotation the way current teams do for the playoffs now.

I'd be more inclined to go with a 5 man more often if this was the case.

Lol - look at me planning rotations around the playoffs!

The answer is no. You will have to use all 5 in the playoffs. Your Game 1 starter cannot start again until Game 6.

And that means even if you go seven games in both the semifinals and finals, Pedro Martinez gets only three starts.
