LOS ANGELES D, POST-WW2 ERA

LOS ANGELES D, POST-WW2 ERA

Postby kab105 » Sun Jan 08, 2012 10:24 am

Just noticed when searching the ATG VI set by team, the post ww2 era LA Dodgers have just 2 players listed. Wills and Davis. I know they had speed, but I don't think they were fast enough to play all 9 positions alone.

Most of those Dodgers are listed under BKN-Post, including other cards for Wills and Davis. Bernie should correct this by combining the two groups.

Those two guys - Davis and Wills - were featured in a marvelous Sport magazine story way back in the 60's; it highlighted the speed component of those Dodger teams and how these two in particular put great pressure on pitchers and catchers.

I remember these two guys all too well when they came to Pittsburgh to play the Pirates at Forbes Field. The Dodgers had trouble hitting the ball out of the infield in those days, but they could scratch out a few hits and win 1-0, or 2-1. They had some guy named Koufax....and some guy named Drysdale...and ... that was all they needed. I went to those games to see Koufax VS Clemente. Clemente gave lefties fits back then. Oh ... the memories. Left field bleachers...50 cents.
