New Heavy SP Team - Help with Fatigue Settings F0 - F8

Postby GFDWARF07 » Sat Jan 28, 2012 12:09 pm

I am in an 80M DH league where I was able to draft Pete, Maddux and Three Finger Brown as my top three starters. Zahn is the 4th starter (to try to save some money for hitting). I am playing in Dodger '64.

I would appreciate some help as to how I should set my fatigue settings for the big three. I have Willie Hernandez as my setup and closer then Dick Hall, Sambito and Bair (.50 varieties, 9L and 9R, respectively) in the pen.

I have never been too clear on the fatigue settings, so a little help would really be appreciated!

On the offensive end, I have the new Gates Brown (full time DH vs. RHP), plus Earl Combs in CF, cheap Wally Post for pure power in RF, Weintraub, Groat, Utley, Prothro, and a few others. Based on the DD card reader my starting lineups' average OBP, at home, against LHP is .430, and vs. RHP its .428. I feel OK about the offense, at least on a budget. I have decent speed over 75% of the roster, a little pure power and high OBP for the most part.

All comments are appreciated!

Thanks,
Dan

put those 3 on slow hook and relief on conservative.
Your wasting money with Hernandez, he won't get in very many games.
There's a bunch of sub-2mil relievers you can use to close.

I play the CD-ROM a lot, so I know how Hal thinks. He will leave your starting pitchers in and that is exactly what you want. Even if you left the settings at normal, instead of slow hook, he would be slow to yank great SPs like the ones you have. And I agree with the other guys, if you are spending that much on SPs you do not need to spend that much on your bullpen.

Good lucks!

Thanks much! What about the fatigue settings? (F0 through F8)?

F8 means the pitcher is fatigued a little bit, F0 means the pitcher is fatigued a lot. You really do not want your pitchers pitching fatigued at all. But your SPs will not tire easily.

Besides Hal (The computer) will not pitch a SP if he is fatigued, unless he has to. Relief pitchers are sometimes brought into the game fatigued, but you are better off when they are not.

I would not use the F- settings on pitchers. HAL will keep them in until they reach the F-number you set, and then make the call as to whether to pull them or not.

I'd say just roll with Slow Hook and see how that works. If he's pulling them early, reconsider.

The fatigue settings specify to Hal that the SP will not be pulled
unless he reaches that fatigue level. Its the first priority, so if
you set F1, the pitcher will stay in the game even if his fatigue
has fallen to F2 (you can track this in the box score).

F5 is actually as low as you need to go in all but the most extreme
cases. And for most SP its best not to set any fatigue value, then the
SP can be lifted at any time.

A couple of situations where you might want to set a fatigue number:

1) You have elite starters (Maddux, Walter Johnson, Christy
Matthewson,..). If you feel these guys pitch better fatigued than
your bullpen, set a fatigue number

2) You have a weak bullpen. This will tend to greatly increase
your SP innings.

3) The back end of your rotation is weak and your bullpen is
only moderately deep. Give fatigue ratings to the front of your
ratation, not the back end. This will increase the chances that
your best starters throw a lot of innings and your relievers will
be fresh for the back end of the rotation.
