Sorry as I'm sure this has been addressed 33,587 times, but if you designate a pitcher as a LH/RH specialist does that equate to "avoiding" the opposite handed hitter?
I tried it and the corresponding box was not checked to "avoid" so I am assuming no, just can't find the info in print to verify and be sure.

It used to automatically check those boxes but for some reason it doesn't anymore. I always go ahead and check the box also forr good measure.

Ok if it doesn't check the box then HAL reserves the right to use RH specialist v LHP depending on circumstances, correct?
IOW is HAL defining RH specialist as "a pitcher who excels against RH batting but will not necessarily be pulled v. LH batter".

Check the box if you want him to avoid LHB or RHB. If he's someone you're okay with facing a L/R HB as opposed to his dominant side (like Honeycutt's R1 card in 80/100), set him as a specialist, and another role, and do not check the box.

Jeff Nelson (1997) is card in question (6R). Not the best card either way, but a decent RH card whom I wouldn't break my monitor if he did face a LHB.
I just didn't want to set as RHSpec if it in fact made him completely avoid LHB.
Thx.

No matter if you check "avoid left handed hitters", he will still face a few of them. If a right handed hitter is up, and then a lefty, and then another righty chances are good Hal will leave him in for the left handed hitter. I see this all the time with the CD-ROM, and there is not much you can do about it, unless you are managing the actual game. The setting will make it so the pitcher avoids lefties some of the time but it will not make it so your pitcher never faces a left handed hitter.

I have Sambito set to avoid RH hitters, and as a LH specialist, yet he has faced 56 RHB, vs 62 LHB.
Working off Stormcrow2012's post, if he faced a LHB, then had 2 or more RHBs coming up, with a LHB after them, would he be kept in to face the RHBs, just to be in to face the later LHB? If so, that would elevate the number of off-hand batters faced.

You probably need the "quick hook" switch on to make him a true specialist.
