UPDATE

Postby dyork56 » Sun Feb 26, 2012 9:03 pm

Drafted this afternoon. Got most of what I wanted...obviously I missed out on one SP and I didn't pick Jerry White. Cleveland '51 with Comiskey '60, Wrigley '59, and Forbes '57 in my division. Rest of the league is: Forbes '57 x 2, Forbes '65, Sportsman's '20, League '34 x 2, Fenway '67, and Jacobs '05.

Never used any of those SP cards; granted a new Leonard card etc.
I realize you have quite a few pitcher parks, and I like Richert in one, but not in yours. He is liable to blow many games because your offense isnt that potent. Whenever using Kaat, has always been the lefty slanted card which is a value.

Overall, I think the offense is lacking hits and OBA.
Like Musial, very good balanced choice here. Beltran overpriced as his OBA is too low IMO. Ott is a decent card, but not a big fan for your park since he is so BP dependent for hits and power (not even 30 natural base hits either side). Paying a lot for what you're getting on him.

Never used that Porter, so will be interested in how it does.

Guerrero at 3B seems a liability since your offense is not that potent.

How are you using Ozzie? If leadoff, I think he is subpar. Then that makes him a decent #9 hitter for the decent OBA out of the 9 hole. But that's a lot of money for great D and a 9 hitter or great D and a subpar leadoff guy.

I just realized you said "update" so maybe I waded in after you already took some inputs. My honest apology if that is so.

If you got most of what you wanted, try it out and post results--good luck!

Mac--

To be honest, I have been in a rut lately finding the values. I'm with you on the OBA, I kind of felt like my "o" was lacking something, but couldn't put my finger on it. Ozzie was a 2 hole idea. I'm looking at Newt Allen to take over for him at SS (may get a little more punch that way). In CF, would the '82 Gorman be a better choice?

I've had mixed results with Richert and I was looking to try and snag the other Kaat card if I can get some money moved around. I'm thinking of picking up the mid-range Tommy John card to fill the other SP slot, which would free up more than enough cash to made the swap for the other Kaat card.

I'm excited to see what Porter can do, especially since he is a 3 game injury only.

ah--ok--just noted the original thread--this was the case of picking players before picking a park.

And the original question was Ott or Keller--clearly you made the right choice on that, but I think it's a false dilemma for your park and opp parks.

i.e., false dilemma=why must it be one or the other? there are other players.

He won't necessarily hurt, but he won't be a superb value in that park. I would guess numbers below 300 BA, and below 500 slug. Actuals show he is a decent choice, and consistent with the expectations above, considering the parks.

Gottcha. Like I said, normally I stick to pitcher park most of the time, but have been in such a funk lately I decided to go a different route. Normally my LF is Keller, just because he seems to be fairly versatile (it could just be the fact that he has been on several BAD teams lately). Teams I had in Ebbet's '53 were fairly decent and Cleveland '51 seemed pretty close to the original 8's and 10's.

With all that said, I realize I went about putting this thing together bass-akwards...haha. The more I look at Beltran, the more I don't like the card. The lack of avg. and obp against righties makes me nervous.

I'll be searching for a solution over the next 24 hours.....let's hope I'm smart enough to find one. ;)

For CF in that price range, maybe a Lofton or Puckett (Hits and some power). But I must say--you have been analyzing your lineup and opponents, L/R splits, parks...so my input is in isolation. I would trust yours.

But here are the actuals on Beltran for all parks at 80 mil, 12 uses:
0.252 0.322 0.470 win %: 0.493

I think that's about what to expect (at least the first three columns).

I would say all parks is appropriate filter because you do have a neutral-ish park and small ball parks, few lefty, etc.

Thanks, mac. I appreciate the input. I'll look around and see what's out there and trust my gut. I'll keep you posted....

yeah, don't fret. I think if you just go with good D at SS or 2B, free some cash there, then use that cash to beef up a player to the next level...or upgrade the other. Tying the 8M+ to those two guys up the middle seems a lot of money at 80M for not a lot more than D.

And then switch out Beltran if you can--maybe get into the 8-10 mil range by freeing cash up from either 2B or SS.

That would/could get you into the Lofton, Snider, Griffey, Dimagg...etc range and they all would be improvements.

But trust your gut is right! After all, you paid your money, I didn't. Like playing poker with chips vs money...

Fake money is always better--unless you're playing with someone else's money....that's the best!

I had a friend in college who had a girlfriend that used to say, "it's ok, I'll write a check...you don't have to actually have the money if you write a check...."
