So...in finals...with a 6 run lead just gained in the top half...decides to replace sanguillen with the backup catcher (pytlak), replace the LF (a 2e12 (-2)) with a bench guy at 4e7(+1) (Chick Stahl)...
when no defensive replacements were indicated.
Then I proceeded to lose the game...ugh
I feel like Nev

So HAL just replaced your starting C and LF for no reason?

The mercy rule. When stomping your opponent hopelessly clear the bench so it does not get too out of hand.....
Explain why this happened ...HAL

Tied going into the 9th, HAL decides to take Santop from the C spot move him to RF and put in Nicosia. He replaces Joe Jackson (1-3) with Santop!?
Bottom 9th, Hit to RF and E-9 scores winning run. Makes no sense, the defense was completely trashed. No catcher for would be basestealers and no RF? WTH! My defense is bad enough in the OF now HAL degrades it even more.

Actually if I'm reading that box score right, HAL replaced defensive wizard :) Mark Brouhard with Santop who pinch hit for Jackson just before that and singled. So, you actually got a defensive upgrade there.

Although this thread was hijacked, it appears that way.

Sorry that I was one of the hijackers, but without showing a box score, and telling us the relevant settings, there really isn't much to say. As the other example showed, however, the vast majority of the time there is an explanation. Maybe not a great explanation, and maybe not what your wanted, but an explanation nonetheless.
That being said, losing a six run lead in the bottom of the ninth is hard to blame on a non-optimal defensive substitution. :)

It is in Hal's nature to get more guys in the game,.....almost like a Little League coach, or the way a big league coach will rest guys from time to time.

Sorry I wasn't trying to hijack this thread, just thought I was showing a relevant experience, just missed the Pinch hit piece.
