This will be a very simple ATG VI concept theme league. No players (or cards, more specifically) greater than 5.00M will be allowed on rosters at any point during the year. To prevent hoarding of high value RP's, [b:042e23a40e]each team can only carry one RP-only rated pitcher at a salary greater than 3.5M [/b:042e23a40e](i.e one RP between 3.5 and 5.0 is allowed).

Cap will be $100M (meaning some cap management is in order); DH Yes; Advanced rules; Waivers; 80% drop; Unique Stadiums; 24 Round Diamond Dope draft (final spots filled by AD card); Randomized draft order after sign-up complete; 24 rounds will include unique stadium (23 players and 1 stadium drafted). "Keep it moving" draft format: No clock for first round; 2 hour clock thereafter ~8am-10pm CDT 7days/week; Proxies strongly encouraged!

If you do not have a DD user account please sign-up for one before signing up for the league. Thank you.

Please sign-up if you're interested. The name of the game for the league will be fun and it's a nice chance to try out some of the lower echelon players in larger roles than usual.

Thanks!

Dan

I will ask those willing for e-mail addresses so I can send heads-ups when people ar up during the draft.

Will the same cap apply to relief pitchers?

Dan: Great theme. There are lots of good players under $5 mil. I'm a little concerned, though, that the league will turn into a battle of stud relief pitchers. Since a general rule of thumb seems to be that the "RP only" players are priced at about 50% of SP* with similar runs created numbers, I'm wondering if you've given any thought to a price cap on players designated as "RP only" to prevent potential abuses, to insure competitive balance and to give low dollar hitters a half way decent chance in the late innings. $100 mil is a lot of money with a $5 mil player limit (akin to $200 mil+ with no per player limit). How about a $2.5 mil or $3 mil limit on "RP only"?

Good point, Bernie. I would consider any change to get this thing filled. So if there were no objections from RJ or dukie, let's add the following rule:

*Each team can only carry one RP-only rated pitcher at a salary greater than 3.5M (i.e one RP between 3.5 and 5.0 is allowed).

I think that effectively addresses your concern. You get one ace reliever. Sign-up if you agree!

One stud relief pitcher per team

I don't have an objection (and I'd like to see the league fill, because it's a good idea and requires us to use a lot of cards that we may otherwise skip), but I think the concern may be a little overstated. Last summer, we had a league with a similar premise, but at $80M with a $4M max. Yes, most of the teams had a couple of relievers in the $3M+ range- but I don't think it impaired the quality of the league at all. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that we had the most realistic stats in that league of any that I've been in (league averages of .262/ .334/ .399, with a 4.10 leaguewide ERA, and no teams over 850 runs scored or allowed).

There are, by my count, 37 pure relievers between 3.5M and 5M. If all of these pitchers were drafted-- including the R1's who may not be the most efficient use of funds-- that would average out to 3 per team. Of course, if you're drafting three stud relievers at $100M, that also reduces your ability to put a strong defense on the field behind them.

I'm in either way, but I don't think the reliever restriction is necessary.

I'm worried about potential RP abuse

My concern is the guy who drafts 4 stud relievers and 4 or 5 cheapo SP around $1 mil. Of course everyone is free to manage as they see fit and while technically within the rules (before the limit on "RP only" was imposed), I think such relief pitcher (ab)use violates the spirit of the rules. I know this is fantasy baseball, but no staff in history has ever come close to having 4 or 5 starters with 200 innings or less and 3 or 4 relievers with 200+ innings. I've been in a couple of leagues with such teams and didn't have much fun, as I find that style of play to be very distasteful.

Further, even with just one RP in the $3.5 - $5 mil range, there are plenty of good relief pitchers in the $2 - $3.5 mil range who are better than most starting pitchers <$5 mil.

I'm not really thrilled at ANY relief pitchers >$3 being allowed, but I can live with the limitation Dan imposed, as it should somewhat limit relief pitcher abuse.

I hear you Dukie and tend to agree, and can see it both ways. But at this point we need owners and if it means adding Bernie to the list, let's make the change. I know RJ will be OK either way.

Bernie - consider it done (I will add the rule to the initial post) and please add your name to the list!

Thanks,
Dan
