Stan Musial, 1941.

As a September call up, his .426 with a 1.023 OPS in the middle of a pennant race. granted, 47 AB, but why not? We've made more with less (Gates Brown, Ken Smith).

I like it. You can never have too many "The Man" cards, in my opinion anyway.

'49, '53, or '54 Red Schoendienst would be a cool addition, too.

Great ideas - as long as they can only pinch-hit in dh leagues.

Never happen because of the pricing complications. But I think it would be cool to have cards like this limited Musial and Brown and a few others available but limited use somehow for use as pinch hitters in non-DH leagues. It could return some realism as some of these marginal small sample cards would be quite useful bench players.

The bench in most non 200 mil leagues is mostly about filling out team with cheapos that are not totally useless. A limited use Musial or Brown, etc could add and additional element in the arsenal for building a winning team.

Then again guys like Petro and Nev do not need yet another way to beat our brains in. But could make losing fun again if it drove more leagues to allowing pitchers to hit.

Enhanced version... September Call Ups.

Free cards that are removed from the general population at draft, but available at game 141. Musial 41, Brown's kooky card, Ken Smith, Kevin Maas...

Interesting idea, PKB...would the roster expand to allow these guys to join the team or would a manager need to make sure he/she has the space? Not usually an issue with my teams, but just sayin'.

Get a cap expansion of 5% and must fit them on a 28 man roster. For most teams <200M, that yields 4 spots or 3 for call ups.

We would relegate all cards with less than an arbitrary number of PA to the "call up" category and have a waiver style process, based on record. So, the weakest team gets 1941 Musial (assuming no one is using main Musial) or maybe 2011 Matt Moore, or something similar in pitching... starters with <5 starts and relievers with <15 appearances? Something abitrary and round.

This is a major code project for a minorly interesting wrinkle. I do not see it happening, but I like talking big projects anyway. It's why I can find Newt Gingrich absurd, fascinating, and sympathetic.

Cool concept....but you're right, that would be a gigantic project for a small return. We can hope though, eh?

Gates Brown was the original "Fat Tiger." Billy Martin won a division title in the early 70's with a roster of ancient, slow, and obese Tigers, but nobody was fatter than the Gator.
