I looked at several of the leagues I'm in currently, and Arky Vaughan is leading in the MVP race. He also is near the top of Batting Average, HR's and runs created in all leagues. It seems like it is really a drag on the game if one player has a "SUPER CARD"--if this card must stay in the set...then why not super cards for other players and adjust their salaries and Arky up over 40%?

Here is what I am getting from Arky through 57 games

Checked twenty leagues for you. Ten active ( 78 games or more) and ten complete. Of the ten active, he is leading three, in second on one and not on the leader board in the other six. Of the ten completed, he won MVP once, came in second once, came in fifth once and did not make the list on the other seven. Of those twenty leagues, eight are live drafts, seven at 200mil, four at 140mil and one at 100mil. The four that are either leading MVP or won it were: two live and two 200mil. The two second places are: One 140mil and one live. The fifth place was in a live league.


On a current team after 55 games he is hitting .279, .402ob and .582 slugging in Yankee 71.

I do agree that his card is too good for the 19 HR season it is based on. I do not agree Mathews card is too good for a 47 HR guy. Of the leagues I'm in I haven't seen anything off the charts from Mathews like I see with Bonds routinely.


Of the above current teams (78 gamers or more) Mathews has only been around long enough to be in four leagues. He shows up once, fifth place, on the MVP list.

It looks like he performs well but is not really dominating more than the rest of the better cards. As with all of these players how they are used and dice rolls impacts their results---that brings up an idea--what would be your "best" dream team ATG cards---here is my--in all cases the most expensive card of the player

I'm really tired of all this "Arky Vaughn is the most incredible, bestest, most fantastabulous, god-like card ever!" talk. "Better than Ruth," etc. It's simply not true. He performs like a $12 million card should perform.

I frankly don't see the big deal.

7 teams going (6 in season, 1 entering Finals). Only two leagues, apply, Vaughan wise, due to theme league restrictions, 2011 game etc. In the one that is completed, Vaughan didn't even finish in the top 5 for MVP. He had a nice season; 40 HRs, 100+ RBI, hit just a little over .300. But, certainly not earth shattering, in the ATG context. The other league, which is 99 games in, he is 2nd in the MVP voting, behind Mathews, who IS ripping it up. Mathews leads in HR, RBI, SLG and OPS. Vaughan is second in OPS, first in BAVG with a +.400 avg.

On the team that I have him, the 6 million dollar Dickey card is outperforming him.........yes it is a pitchers park.......Rickwood...

Vaughn led one of my teams to the best record in the league, and finished 2nd in the MVP to Bagwell. He ended up .377-.485-.728, with 52 HR and 159 RBI. Compared to his real-life .385-.491-.607. and considering that my park was Sportsman's NL 41, I don't see his season as in any way outrageous.

As for all the uproar, it should be noted that he hit 19 HR in only 137 games, and in Forbes Field, no less. He was a truly outstanding player; Bill James rated him as the 2nd best SS of all time.

I'd far prefer his "real" card, which would probably be on the order of 4HR and 6-7 BPHR based on the era. The average NL team in 1935 hit 83 HR, and he played in a ballpark that greatly suppressed them. Last year, in what we considered to be a "pitchers' year," the average ML team hit 152 HR.

So, in context, Vaughan probably hit the equivalent of about 40 "modern" HR in a neutral park, while missing over 10% of his team's games. It's hard to say what card he "should" have - many of the old seasons have had the player cards adjusted in various ways to account for era.

I'm pretty sure that a careful adjustment of that card would not be as good as the one we have, but I think it would still be a very dominant card.
