Unsolicited Accelerated Start Date

Unsolicited Accelerated Start Date

Postby AeroDave10 » Mon May 14, 2012 11:21 am

I just joined a public ATG VI league (called "all in"), and while the league apparently didn't fill until after the Friday (May 11th) night deadline passed, the powers that be posted this on the Front Office home page:

[quote:026e67c743]Note, 5/12: Per request, this league's Opening Night has been
moved up to Monday, May 14. Enjoy! [/quote:026e67c743]

I don't know who made the request, but it certainly wasn't done with league-wide approval. In fact, there was no mention of it until the change had already been made. Unless something is changed, we now have 5 hours between the time waivers runs and when we have to set our lineups for Game 1.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this being done in other leagues?

First I heard of this happening. While I appreciate customer service trying to be helpful, to do this for a [b:d2e24d1cfa]public [/b:d2e24d1cfa]league is asking for trouble.

Bernie's official response ...

Dave,

The reason it was changed is because it was pointed out to me that the league filled before midnight, and historically any drafts that run at midnight on Friday night resulted in an Opening Day that Monday. So I figured I’d be making people happy by moving it up. I’ve manually moved up dozens of Opening Days upon request; I’ve never waited until I had 100% confirmed approval, because I’ve never received a single complaint about it – only pleased customers.

THAT SAID, I can totally understand the objection to such a change that you didn’t explicitly request. I was just trying to please (what I assumed to be) the most people. I hope you can understand where I’m coming from.

If you like, please feel free to share my response with the league so that everyone understands, and if there is a very strong opposition to having the season start tonight, let me know and I’ll reconsider. However, you can probably imagine the confusion and frustration if a second change were to be made. I just want to make sure you know where I’m coming from and that ultimately I’m always willing to make things right if possible.

Thanks,
Bernie H.

I dont know what specifically happened here- but in live drafts we have often moved the date to the immediate monday because the draft sometimes went beyond midnight.
Usually someone would send an email to everyone in the league letting them know that they would be making the request.

I'm in the same league and I've never been in a league where opening
day was the same day that waivers ran.

When I entered the league, I wasn't aware this was the case.
I probably would not have joined, if I had known.

I'd rather have a little more time to tinker.

The key word is request.

That's because approval has already been agreed upon, by all managers involved before the request is made.

I've been in some of those leagues and your help has been appreciated, but we were all in agreement.

Often in my experience, when I look at a team for a week it gets worse, not better. Yes it is fun to tweak and wait, watching the wire for that perfect drop to make your team a winner. You look, hoping that that guy with Arky and Eddie decides he wants a better defense and drops one.

But, it usually does not matter. Make your choices and go with them. :-)

This seems to happen quite often. I don't have a problem with it, but I do think everyone in the league should be asked if they mind having the start date pushed up. It's just common courtesy...
