Polo Grounds '11 suggestions

This is my first time in the Polo Grounds but I used Baker Bowl all the time. Although, this is the first time that I've tried it with this much pitching. I managed to grab all 4 SP and all 8 starters that I asked for in the draft. I didn't get a reliever that I asked for so I'm now looking to upgrade Oliva in RF.

Any suggestions?

I haven't run the numbers, but my initial impressions are that you will hit a bunch of solo HRs. You're gonna need a bullpen and a leadoff man.

No offense, Miller, but I don't like this team. Relatively low OBP and low batting averages, a ton of DPs, and ugly ugly pitchers 4-10. Even with Pete and 3-Finger, you need at the very least one dependable RP, and 2 would be better. I agree on the Oliva upgrade - he's not a great Polo fit. A lot of guys suited best for the 6th/7th slots (Gordon, May, Doby, Horton, Garvey). You'll win a majority of the Pete/3-Finger games, but rotation 3-4 spots will lose a ton.

Agreed, you need a $3M reliever. Dump Ripken, he isn't worth the $$. Grab a $2.5 M ss like Bush, Peck, Wills, etc. Use the cash to get a RP, and upgrade Garvey to Robertson if he's available. Trade in Oliva for a leadoff hitter in RF and I think you have a great team.

McCoskey is available in RF, and would solve your leadoff, obp problem to some extent... You also have Keller and C.Jones available on FA for lf, so you have some options.

I agree, you need a better bullpen. Might consider downgrading Washburn and get a cheaper #4 platoon.... (Cvengros, R.Caldwell, maybe even Cox) to create some $$ for a rp.

I personally like Ripken here, have used him many times in baker/fenway, and always performs, and does not get hurt. Gordon is more inconsistent, but i do not see anything on the wire that i would rather have.... :)

Polo is one of my favorite parks. Theres some good advice here. I agree with gamiam about Robertson. He has always done very well for me in Polo. Also try and avoid pitchers that have a lot of #HR's on their card. Drysdale for example...death in Polo!

Washburn is what HAL gave me instead of Giusti. Fair trade I think,... Not! Anyway, I'm working on upgrading him to a 3 mil RP. I'm also looking at my options at RF. If I could only get HAL to let me spend a little extra cash.
