AutoDraft Mistake?

Am I missing something here? Why did this happen?

I had an autodraft this evening (the first night after the big server switch).
My draft list included Koufax ($10.73) and McLain $9.78. I got neither and Hal awarded me Adams ($9.77) and Garcia ($9.13). Yet, when I checked free agents there was Clemens ($10.34) and Johnson ($9.35) available. Its a waiver league so there have not yet been any pitcher cuts.

I thought Hal was supposed to award the next highest salaried player at that position. So how come I did not get Clemens and Johnson instead of Adams and Garcia. And, yes, I still have the salary room to accommodate both those pitchers.

Is this typical and I have just missed it previously?

Will give you the next pitcher with the same S/R rating.

Thanks for the response.

But I asked for McLain (an S) and got two S/R's. By that logic, Hal still should have given me the higher priced Johnson (also an S) instead of Garcia (an S/R)

I thought I still had this linked on my site http://rajohnson.dnsalias.com but I don't - but the page is still here

This tells the tale of how the autodraft works from a scripted draft that we once did. The bottom line here, you will get the next lowest priced pitcher (could be SP or could be SP/RP) that is also [b:d5cbadfbfc]NOT ON ANYONE ELSE'S DRAFT CARD.[/b:d5cbadfbfc]

That is incorrect. See the post above with the proof.

MM -- That's fine. But it doesn't explain the problem described above.

I have the same thing in a league that drafted last night. I had Brown and Pfiester on my list, didn't get either one, Clemens sits in the FA pool. I got Ford instead. No chance at getting Clemens bc I'm 5th on the waiver list. If Clemens is in the FA pool does that mean he wasn't on anyone's list? If so, why didn't he go to a team that didn't get Pete, 3 finger, Pfiester etc....

Thanks for posting that link, Moose and performing that research.
Your findings were consistent with my understanding of the autodraft process based on TSN's published rules on the topic.

Yet, franks1313 and I have posted two examples from autodrafts last night where HAL (the AI) did not follow these guidelines. Starting pitchers were awarded to the 'conflict losers' that had a lower salary than other pitchers that were not listed on anybody's draft card.

Yep, I see your examples and it absolutely does not fit in with the proven formula. Something must have hiccuped. As soon as Bernie gets enough rest from the server ordeal, I will point him to this thread and ask for - NO - DEMAND (lol) some answers !

Hi folks, sorry I'm chiming in late, but I have the answer for you.

The draft behaved as it was programmed, in this case.

If you choose an S/R (like Koufax) that's unavailable, the draft will give you another S/R (Adams) because it tries to honor your S/R request.

However, if you choose an S (McLain), the draft will give you either an S or an S/R (Garcia), because either case would be able to serve your desired function (i.e. start).

Hope that clears things up for you.
