Value Pitchers in Forbes?

Value Pitchers in Forbes?

Postby JUMA » Tue Feb 28, 2006 12:42 pm

I started this squad thinking a 5 man rotation, but changed radically, in part due to picking up Cobb in the post waivers mini-frenzy. Yes, Cobb was cut.
League has 9 pitching parks. Division is a Shibe 50, Griffith & Fenway 67. Pitching split in division is 4 LH, 8 RH; hitting split is roughly 14 R/10 L (there are some platoons.)
Any thoughts on whether this value approach will fly? Suggestions re changes? I am on the lookout for a cheap 5th SP to spot start in the hitter's parks.

Randy,

Looks like a pretty darned solid squad.

Don't really like Cuellar and Grant as your #3 & #4.

Usual suspects there: Kaat, Boyd, Hunter and/or Knepper would look good.

Another guy is Jimmy Key. Even Mickey Harris???

Sanderson's not bad for a buck-eighty one.

Also - your starting lineup is rated for 180+ errors. Even in Forbes, that's pretty steep.

Randy,

I like your team and approach, I've done a few recent teams like this. They are very fun because you have lots of options to consider both in the field and pitching. Ideas/thoughts:

Options at 1B or LF for Alou, swing Musial based upon best available, ideas include Clarke, Heath, Devore, McCormick or who knows in the future. A Brock/Burns with Musial playing LF/1B is also an approach.

Take Lamp or Giusti for Henke, they will pitch OK at home and better than Henke at Fenway

Dump Shof or Pattin, your pen with Giusti, Miller, Richert and Pattin would be fine. HAL will pitch one of those guys, usually at the wrong time.

Go with a 5 man rotation, Clancy is a decent option, especially if there are a lot of RH hitters in your division. Another option would be Loes and Lea or Cven.

4 day values are out there, Perry, McAndrew, Winter, Milliken, Dobson, or even Sanderson or Petry. There are some great values in the $6M range, Boddicker, Hildi, Feller, Sturdivant. If you have the cash and there are some LH sluggers like Brett or Mantle in your division, Russo is a guy to get. One of Reed, Darwin or Briles ia also a good option

Are you sure you want Evers and Honus?

Cochrane is great, but the C injury risk always makes me hesitate. A great trade would be Cochrane for Chance if you could pull it off. Schalk, Sangy or Gibson are reasonable.

Best of luck, sschu

Lots of good suggestions. Thanks.
The team started out with a 5 man rotation of Hildebrand, Reed, Ceccarelli, Merritt, Loes etc & a Brock/J. Alou combo in LF & Valentine in RF.
Cochrane was another post waiver pickup; I missed a cheaper alternative in waivers.
Well, I've got all week to screw them up now!

If you can get Yerkes, I would he's been great so far in Forbes for me

All the usual suspects are gone (incl. Boyd, Knepper, Key & others, including Yerkes) that have been mentioned here. Sanderson is available, as are the non * folks mentioned by Scott.
I have a trade offer out that could help.
The errors are a concern. That aspect could change between now & opening day.
I have picked up McCormick, moving Musial to LF. Also got Lamp in lieu of Henke.
